My preferences are as follows:
Semi-autos - Sig Sauer (1 P229 Extreme), HK (1 HK45c), Glock (1 G19)
1911 - Kimber (1 Pro CDP II)
Revolvers - Smith & Wesson (1 Model 69)
My current obsession is for an HK VP9 (preferably the LE model). Actually obtaining it will involve some serious domestic policy work (begging, pleading, cajoling, completing "honey-do" lists, etc.) with the missus. Affording the gun is not the issue...making the purchase fit HER budget...
I've owned two Kimbers, a TLE II and Pro CDP. Both have been flawless. Granted, Kimber's price point is a bit steep, but the new Warrior SOC is an eye-catcher IMHO.
I have a Glock 21. Great pistol...but if you have smaller hands I would recommend that you go for a Glock 21 SF, or just wait a few months for the release of the Glock 21 Gen 4.
Obviously, the first thing that comes into my mind when I think .45 is a 1911. After that, stick with either...
I find it as easy (if not easier) to carry and conceal a 5" 1911 as any of my Glocks. I'm looking into a G30SF and/or a Commander sized 1911 as my next purchase for CCW.
Nothing at all wrong with Kimber...I love my Custom TLE II, and wouldn't hesitate to buy another. That being said, I wouldn't shy away from either a Colt or a Springfield, either. As a matter of fact, I hope to add one of each to the family one day.
Stick with the Kimber Custom II or TLE...
Stick with one of the "Big Three," Colt, Kimber or Sprinfield. Don't believe all the negative hype you read in various forums about Kimber. My TLE II (and thousands of other Kimbers) have been just as reliable as any other manufacturer. Lots of good suggestions in the posts above. Good luck...
I am the proud owner of a Kimber Custom TLE II. The pistol has been flawless in operation, eating everything (ball and hollowpoint) that I have crammed into its stock Kimber mags. My only complaint has been that the finish seems to have worn off quickly in some spots (thumb safety in...
Congrats on your choice and your new purchase. Personally, I probably would have gone with a G21SF...or perhaps even waited a bit longer for the Gen4 G21. A Gen4 G21 would have given you the option of interchangeable backstraps, and other upgrades such as three dot night sights and steel guide...
Glad to hear from another happy Gen4 G19 owner. I have been very pleased with mine as well (10/20/10 "born on" date with 03 spring.) No malfunctions here, either.
I see the same wear on my TLE II, which is now four years old. My only complaint with my Kimber is that the finish seemed to wear rather quickly in some areas...the thumb safety in particular. Other than that, it functions just fine. I don't think the wear under your hammer (or mine) is any...
My advice regarding Kimber...Buy and Shoot With Confidence! My TLE II was perfect out of the box (with stock magazines, btw) and has continued to function flawlessly for four years now.
