What's the downside to rethreading the barrels vs. rethreading the action? That's the route I'd go--you'd get to leave your action alone and have the ability to set a nut on the barrel itself.

Vern--that's what I'm thinking as well. There will still be blowby wherever the projectile hasn't obturated to full-groove diameter, but it'll at least be better than an extension at land diameter (i.e. bomb!)

Fair enough, colonelhogan44. I'm threading the muzzle for a brake anyway--may as well build this extension and see what happens. If it doesn't work, I'll cut it down and port the silly thing and call it a brake.
