The top rifle is a 1947 39A. Notice the bluing is far superior and the wood is darker. I believe it has a little stain that was added during it's manufacturer. That gun was my dad's after WW2 and was the first gun my brother and I ever shot. My daughters got checked out on it this past summer...
I will post a photo (when my daughter shows me how to do it) of my 1940's darker wood Marlin 39A.
The 1966 Mountie that I own has the oiled wood which I will also post. The newer 39's have a Remington look to them with that crappy varnish or urethane finish.
