I was recently given some re-loading equipment by a friend of the family. It was given to him and he had no interest in reloading. It consisted of a Rock Chucker press (old stlye with bike handle grip) and RCBS Dies in 300 Weatherby and 243 and Pacific Dies in 30-06 and 7mm Magnum. I also...
I've loaded for 2 different 270's, 2 different 7mm-08's and a 30-06 and all 5 rifles liked .020 off the lands. You may want to start there. Then move a few in to .010 and a few the other direction to .030 to see which gets better or worse. Once you know that then you can make small...
I guess I do it the long way. I deprime with a universal de-capping die then tumble then resize. Die pin on the resizing die takes care of any media in the flash hole. Just one more step but I'm not in any hurry anyway.
I started reloading this past fall after spending $30 a box for 7mm-08 when I could find it. Re-loading costs me about $12 a box now and I don't have to worry about finding any plus I can tune the ammo to the rifle.
I order some shot capsules for the 38 but couldn't wait for them to come in so I loaded up 5 rounds using 4.0 grans of W231. I used coke arton wads between the powder and on top of the #8 shot and sealed with candel wax. Went down to the pond this mornign and tested a round. Shot a 4 foot...
Savage Model 11 with AccuTrigger
130 grain Speer BTSP seated .020 off the lands
47.0 grains of H-4350
from bench at 100 yards I can cover 3 holes with a dime
very light. Gun was sighted in with Federal Fusion ammo at 1 inch high. The Varget I had tried was shooting to the left and high and alot more spread between rounds. Not too concerned about placement at this time just tightness of group. Some of the variability in placement was me on the...

Thanks Kernel, Didn't know they had swapped back. Guess Dan the Farmer and I were the unlucky ones that got these slow twisters.
Danthe farmer I will keep you updated. I loaded up some rounds again with the Varget. I started at 40.0 and went to 42.8 in .2 grain increments and will try the...
Thanks, I do have the Hornady OAL guage and comparator setup. It measure 2.280 to the lands at the ogive and I have my bullets seated .020 back from there at 2.260 to the ogive. No problems there with the magazine. Got to looking at the brass today and realized that I had loaded some of the...
Yet i have one and haven't had any problems with it. It has been right on the money with my Lee Safety Scale. Only issue I've had is trickling the last 1/10's of a grain in before it shuts off. I did read that some had problems until they changed the batteries that came with it. If it's not...
Thanks all for the input. rsbible I will look at that post and see what it decribes.
Sunray, the newer Savage 7mm-08's have a 11.5 rate of twist to the barrels. Older versions had the 9.5, I read up a lot on this on the net and then checked mine and sure enough it is 11.5. Lots of questions...
I recently purchased a Savage 11F in 7mm-08. It is one that has the 11.5 twist rate. I know it's kind of slow. From what I've been reading is should still perform well with 120 to 140 grain bullets. I decided to go mid road and bought some Speer 130 grain SPBT bullets and loaded them with...
