    Matchdot II and recoil

I agree 100% with Craig. I have a MatchDot on my 44mag SuperBlackhawk Hunter. It has been there for thousands of full power loads and is still going strong, however if I were to do it again I would just go with the 30mm fixed 4moa dot. I never seem to adjust the match dot off of the 4moa setting...

    1911 firing pin

Just a question, why would you want to change the Ti firing pin out to a steel one? The Springfield guns are Series 70, which means there is no firing pin safety. As such they use a lightweight firing pin (normally titanium) to prevent the pin from having enough inertia to set off a primer...

    Bench technique with a handgun

If you do happen to shoot your revolver off of a bench DO NOT wrap your pinky under the butt of the gun when shooting off of a low bag in the front. My 44mag Bisley Hunter pounded my poor exposed pinky between the butt of the gun and the bench like the hammer of Thor when I touched off a 320gr...

Trade for .45 Remington R1 Enhanced Double Stack?

The Rem R1 Double Stack is essentially the old Para Ordinance P14-45 frame. The Para's had some quality and reliability issues when they moved from Canada to the US, and further issues when Remington and Freedom group took them over. I think unless you know the gun runs like a top, I would pass.

My advice to people just getting into carry

I have to say I agree with the OP regarding the size of the carry gun for someone just starting out carrying. Other posters are spot on regarding the ability to conceal a larger or full size firearm and nobody will notice, but there are a couple of things that starting CCWers don't either know...

    Warning for .22 abusers

I tend to agree with thomas15 that a lacquer sealed round (both primer and case mouth) should be pretty much impervious to incursion of most liquids, even penetrating type oils. The oil would first have to dissolve the lacquer before it could begin to infiltrate the powder or primer. That said...

    The Dreaded HK Trigger Groove

460Shooter, if you are carrying an XDs 45 now, you really owe it to yourself to give the VP9SK a try. I used to carry an XDs 45 as my EDC and to tell you the truth, the difference in thickness between the XDs and VP9SK is not noticeable to me or anybody else. It doesn't print any worse. The...

    The Dreaded HK Trigger Groove

I have a VP9 and VP9SK and have not had the issue you speak of regarding the ridge on the trigger guard. It might just be the way I grip the gun or place my trigger finger. Regardless, it seems like it would be a minor modification to use a piece of sandpaper and polish down the ridge until it...

Tips for first time deer hunter?

Dress like it is a temperate fall day for your hike in. All of your cold weather gear goes in your pack. When you start your hike in you should be saying to yourself....damn, it is a cold out here. If your stand is any distance away and/or has any terrain, you will be plenty warm by the time...

Another new cartridge... .429 DE, i.e. 440 Corbon copy

I thought I heard it was the front suspension spring from a 1982 Camry.

HK P30L: What do we know?

One other thing that can really help with the price is HKs 4 mag deal. They ran one late last year, buy a new P series gun and get 4 free 15 round mags.

How Old is your Oldest Revolver?

I have a 1903 Colt DA Army revolver. It is in pretty rough shape from a lifetime of use. Not my gun but this one looks to be in about the same condition: http://www.bootleghillfirearms.com/_gun%20image%20pages/Colt%20U.S.%20Army%20Model%201903%20DA%20Revolver%2038%20S&W.html

I want to buy this gun...what is it?

For a gun that your buddy got in 1965 the bluing on it is in phenomenal condition. It seems a little dull overall but I can't see a single tool mark anywhere. All the metal work looks pretty incredible. Given the detail on things like the breech face, and some of the marks visible inside when...

    What handgun for Wolves?

9mm out of anything that shoots it would be fine. As commented above, pack hunting is a thing so more rounds is better.

M17 Issued to Sentinels at Tomb of the Unknown

That is one of the most gaudy and overdone pistols I have seen in awhile. Cheap hood ornament is right. The sidearm for the Old Guard should be a properly maintained service grade firearm. I get all of the symbolism but the purpose of the weapon is a tool for the guard to protect the tomb and...

    9mm concealed carry ammo selection

147gr HSTs are my go to 9mm SD round. I have found them to be 100% reliable in all of my CCW pistols and surprisingly accurate. From there I would say my next choices would be: 124gr HST 124gr Gold Dot

Concealed Carrying a HK P2000-Convince Me

I will 2nd or 3rd the recommendation on a P30SK, or even a VP9SK if you like striker fired guns. The 13 round mag seems to be much less obtrusive than other similarly sized guns with that length mag. I believe this is due to the tapered design of the transition between the grip and the...

Anyone here believe a .380 is inadequate?

This right here. Generally I carry the largest caliber that I can CCW. Sometimes that is a 44 Mag, other times it is a 9mm, and others it is a 380. I don't have one size ratchet handle in my toolbox either. Sometimes I need my 1/2" drive, other times 3/8", and for special cases, sometimes that...
