If you want a guaranteed fix you would do well to consider a new hobby. Even with the use of brand new replacement parts there is no guarantee a repair will last for long. This is especially true of flat springs.
In my experience it is the Bolt side of the spring that breaks leaving the Trigger side intact. This is my quick fix:

In my experience with the SxS 20 gauge the shot pattern is too wide for hunting beyond about 10 yards. However, with 40 to 60 grains of black powder and a .61 cal round ball punching large holes in lumber is great fun!

Be very careful of violating laws when cutting down existing SxS shotguns. The $700 pricetag of a new Howdah will seem very cheap compared to many thousands of dollars in legal fees if you go astray of the law.
