    xd 45 vs??

I have an XD45 tactical. LOVE IT. The grip angle is perfect. I have used many varieties of ammo, even some really cheap stuff, and its functioned flawlessly, and has been accurate even with the cheap stuff. Extremely accurate with winchester white box JHP. I would not trade this gun in for...

    Low Recoil Varmint Rifle

.22-250. Low recoil, super flat shooting. And way more bullet choices then the .204. 223 is good also, But they sure do fall off after a couple hundred yards.

Want to buy a do-all rifle

I agree.... an AR 308 has very reasonable recoil. Add a muzzle brake, and its very easy to deal with. I can shoot all day with it.

.308 or .30-06, and which bullet weight?

I say go with the savage in .308. Savage rifles shoot great, its cheaper, the 308 will have slightly less recoil, and if you want to shoot off the bench, there's no real reason to go with the heavier rounds you can shoot from the 06. As for ammo availability, both seem plentiful in my area. But...

She's a shooter! A very picky one though...

Hardluk, I still have the stock trigger, and yes, I would love to replace it, because I am sure the groups would have gotten better with a better trigger. Also, I haven't bought dies yet, but now I know it'll shoot, and what it likes, I am going to start. I have reloaded for 22-250 extensively...

She's a shooter! A very picky one though...

BTW, I started off using a cheap Barska 10x40 x50mm scope I bought just for its high magnification, and I got what I paid for. It would not hold a zero when changing magnification. And the bushnell lens clarity and focus was so far superior I thought someone must be playing a joke on me.

She's a shooter! A very picky one though...

Some of you may remember my Stevens model 200 economy build. For a refresher, see it here... http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=640049 Anyways, I have had it to the range twice. First time was a bust, because I didn't loctite the screws on the scope rail, and it came loose and...

    Rounding edges

Some good ideas here. If you have a dremel and steady hands, you can use a unitized abrasive wheel like a 3m EXL or similar, and then blend the finish with a fine scotch brite. The red scotch brite mentioned earlier may be too course. I would try either a grey or blue scotch brite.

    Tumbling .22-250 rounds

I've seen pics of bullets hitting sideways, but never grouping so tightly at 100 yds. Crazy! How long have you had this rifle? How many other loads have you tried without these problems? I used to re-load 22-250 for a ruger varmint rifle. I ran more different loads then I can remember through it...

Cheaper Than Dirt? Shipping.... say what!

Makes me wonder if they do this(ship from multiple warehouses) on purpose to make more money with their outrageous shipping charges. Anyone here tried sportsmans guide? I find their pricing reasonable and their shipping to be as well. And its always shipped in a timely manner. I highly recommend.

16 Rules for the gunman All very true

I agree with just about everything Sam1911 has said. Having seen how poorly the law responded to a firearm incident in my home last October, I can assure you that if you even pull a gun in the state of Illinois, regardless of the laws, the judges make up their own rules. You could be fighting...

    Barrel Break-in

BTW, I have been breaking in my barrels since before the internet, as advised by an old timer at the gun shop I bought my rifle from, now the largest gun store in Illinois.

    Barrel Break-in

For all those that think breaking in a barrel is a myth, I have never owned a rifle that shot as good within its first 20 to 50 rounds as it did after that. Barrel manufacturers do everything they can to make a barrel as accurate as possible, EXCEPT fire many rounds through it. There are things...

    Hype surrounding Ruger SR22

Finally got back to the range with it last weekend. I put hundreds of rounds through it of various ammuntion. I only had one failure to feed this time. It was with this federal ammo I have never seen before that is specifically made for semi auto guns. It otherwise shot well with everything...

    TulAmmo and accuracy

I've run several hundred rounds through my XD45, and it has cycled and fired flawlessly. Also, its shown similar accuracy out of that pistol to the cheap federal ammo and cheap winchester ammo. As far as the rifle stuff goes, I can't bring myself to waste good money on ammo I have a gut feeling...

    Hype surrounding Ruger SR22

OK, issues fixed. I polished the top and sides of the chamber just enough to stop the rubbing. polished the feed ramp to a mirror shine. Used a spot of grease instead of the oil where the slide was rubbing the hammer. And a new issue I found, the guides just above either side of the grip, that...

How loud are high velocity .22lr?

I use the foam plugs in the machine shop where I work, and the same plugs for shooting. They seem to be plenty sufficient. The noise and impulse from my 45 is much much less then a 22lr without the plugs. That being said, to the OP, I noticed the CCI stingers out of my short barreled ruger sr22...

    Hype surrounding Ruger SR22

Discovered yet another issue. If I pull the slide back half an inch, and let go it will stay back half an inch. The slide rubs the hammer on the left side of the gun, but only when the hammer is cocked back. Looks like it may go back to ruger after all. No way I can polish the hammer or slide.
