    Mentor for a newbie

I live in Columbus, Ohio and I am very interested is trying IDPA or USPSA. I have no experience with competitive shooting, but it seems to be a very enjoyable recreational activity. However, I am a little apprehensive to jumping in alone. I am not sure if I would enjoy it and may become...

    First deer with a rifle

Seeing her run kinda freaked me out. I thought I missed. She ran off looking fine and went down out of sight. I was just expecting her to drop where she was or within a few yards but she made it a good 40 yards. Anyhow, it was still exciting to get one with a rifle!

    First deer with a rifle

Growing up in a shotgun only state I have never shot a deer with a centerfire rifle. However, now being located in S. Dakota, I finally got the chance. I made a great shot with the .300 win mag. Nicked the back shoulder muscle but no bone going in (which destroyed the meat) and the bullet exited...

Strangest thing you came across while hunting

The only thing I have found out of the ordinary in the woods was while playing paintball when I was younger. We were playing in a small patch of woods and stumbled upon someone's cannabis. Just turned around and walked out as if I didn't see a thing.

    Moving from OH to SD

A stop in Iowa it is. It is exactly half way and being there is no reason to avoid it, I'll be able to comfortably spend the night there. I am not too worried about Illinois but just worried about that what if I get stopped and harassed by the police. I'll just follow the speed limit and get in...

    Moving from OH to SD

I'll be moving from Ohio to South Dakota next month and I am trying to plan my trip. I have reviewed SD gun laws and there doesn't seem to be any restriction on the type guns I can own (hunting rifles, AR, and several semi-auto pistols), but please correct me if I am wrong. What I am worried...

    Cabelas is coming to Ohio

I just hope Cabelas brings down the prices at Gander Mountain. Ammo prices there are a joke compared to Vance's. Now all Columbus needs is its own Fin Feather and Fir so that I don't have to drive an hour to get a good selection of reloading supplies.

Opinions on Sellier and Bellot primers?

I bought some last spring in small rifle and I have had no issues with them. I use them in my .223 reloads in my ar15. I like them and for the price they are great.

My ppk380 only eject them a few feet. Most of them land nicely by my feet.

    Real Scary Sweep...!!!

I never give them more than one bullet their first time shooting. When I took my wife shooting for the first time I actually started her off with a .22 pistol. Before I even handed her the gun I made it clear to never point that gun anywhere but at the target and she has always kept the gun...

    Rossi 223 heavy barrel

What does it say on the barrel .223 or 5.56? I woukd.go by what ever the markings are on the barrel, that is if they stamped the barrel with the caliber.

Something that's both delicious, and useful!

My wife buys kimchi in these huge glass jars and they work perfect for storing my brass. They fit about 500 .223. I was using coffee cans but these jars are way bigger and look much better scattered in the basement.

375 H&H Mag Reloading for Encore

I am not sure about the datum data but I am consfused/curious why you said the brass grows out of spec when neck sizing. I have an encore and plan on buying a rifle barrel for it, so I am really curious about reloading for the encore.

    S&B Small Rifle Primers

I bought 10000 from grafs a few month back when they were $100 per 5000. I have shot probably 500 through my AR and have not had a problem. They go boom every time I pull the trigger and all my bullets group well with them.
