Idea For New Ruger Home Defense Revolver

    35. Not that it matters much when we're talking about shaving a couple pounds, tops. To me, weight means stability. Stability means more accuracy. I just as soon have a little added weight to know that one shot equals one kill than to have less weight and chance it.

    Grant Cunningham

He's an artisan and a professional. I read on his blog not long ago that he had a back log almost 2 years long and that he wasn't taking any new requests as a result. Although, I'd suspect Mr. Cunningham is the top of his field much like the Randall family is the top of theirs in the knife...

Idea For New Ruger Home Defense Revolver

How is it that weight keeps being brought up as such an enormous issue? The military load out is roughly 85 lbs. We pack that 20+ miles. We climb ropes with it. A loaded M16A2 was over 8 lbs. We carried extra ammo that also weighed about that per 3 magazine set. Now, I have a rifle that...

    Where's the applause button?

I've given in to the .357

I looked at the Smith and the Ruger and took home the GP100 in 6". My rifle weighs over 14 lbs. so carrying around a 3 lb. revolver is not too much to bare. Both the Smith and the Ruger are awesome choices. For me, it came down to cost. I couldn't justify a $200 increase in price to have the...

.308 vs .300 Win Mag for long range accuracy?

I'd stay at the .308 level and work up a load. I found my 700 really likes 45 grains of Varget in once fired brass with CCI primers and Sierra BTHP's in 168 gr. It likes them so much my wife - who didn't fire rifles until we started playing at the range with mine - assembles beautiful .375"...

    .308 opinions wanted

I am disappointed that I missed the opportunity here.... I found myself in a similar decision making situation a couple years ago. I read every thread I could on nearly every long range shooting forum. My goal was to get a .308 that was going to be a good, inexpensive, starting platform for...

    Ruger Sights

Blaze Orange, or bright red nail polish works great. It's built for wear, cheap, and comes in a tiny bottle with it's own brush. There is also another company called BrightSights that makes a fluorescent that supposedly holds light and glows in low light conditions.

Wal Mart carrying Black Hawk holsters :)

Our Wal-marts in Boise area haven't pulled their guns. Never noticed holsters though. Now I'm curious.

Advise on upcoming first handgun purchase

I find the recoil in the poly-framed auto's to be absolutely ridiculous. Before I get flamed to death for this one. I just did a test at the range with my wife's .40 Glock 23 with handloads - half loads - vs. factory 158 gr. .357 magnums out of my new Ruger GP100 6". The kick was worse out of...

    Ruger GP 100

    1) What do you own: I own a blued GP100 6" - brought her home on Saturday - put 100 rounds through her on Sunday. 2) What grips do you use? The Hogue grip that came on it. 3) What loads do you use? So far, I've only put Blazer 158's through it. However, Thursday we will be running some Federal...

    Revolver or Auto

Personally, I am a better shot with a revolver. I do shoot in DA mode. I find the ergonomics and recoil on many semi-autos to be a bit squirrelly for my liking, especially composite frames like the Glock. I do love the feel of a 1911, but still shoot better with a revolver around 6" in barrel...

Dry Firing - Yes, No, Maybe So? - The Definitive Answer...

I practice dry-fire exercises quite regularly and would recommend every shooter do the same. I would recommend - as many other before me - to use snap caps to protect your firearm. You're on a gun-site I am of course assuming that you know to treat every gun as if it were loaded and never point...

Ok folks, What are the pros and cons

The big advantage to a removable magazine is that you can get higher capacity magazines. Not legal for hunting in most places, but it can be a distinct advantage if you shoot from your magazine at the range. Honestly, in bolt action, I generally throw each round in individually so the hinged...

Where did You Learn Riflemanship ?

First post although I've been lurking your threads for nearly a decade. I guess it might be time to speak up. I learned from my mom. No dad around, she found some good ole boys with truckloads of toys and I learned that I had a distinct love of pulling the trigger. Turns out, it takes a bit...
