Pistol caliber carbines - why didn’t I know?

I LOVE this thread! I have a couple of PCCs, but they are of the "old school retro" variety... A Winchester '94 Trapper in .357 (pictured with a few caliber-compatible revolvers), and T/C Contender with the 16.5" .44 magnum barrel... I do envision a semiauto PCC at some point in my...

    Chiappa Rhino 50DS

I have a S&W Governor (which I love) -- so ungainly, weird, and awkward-looking firearms are a "thing" for me. I'd love to get some flavor of Chiappa Rhino at some point. :)

    Gun weirdness in media

In NOTLD 1990, one of the first things the Tony Todd character says is something like, "Do you have any guns? Rifles... Shotguns... Anything?" Now that's a realistic reaction from an unarmed person facing the depicted scenario... Not the anti-gun hokum so many Hollywood productions pawn off...

    Gun weirdness in media

I always loved the 10-12 rounds Josh Randall (Steve McQueen) got off with his Mare's Leg in the course of a running gunfight... And the show ("Wanted Dead or Alive") made at least one reference to Josh purchasing .45-70 cartridges for it at a general store (the rounds that were on his belt loop...

    Gun weirdness in media

Yup... In the Hollywood universe of weird, kludgy, and ungainly firearms, Deckard's blaster stands as my favorite also. It would work for everything from futuristic dystopia to steampunk. :)👍

$15 on Amazon for tan Mora

The Honey app says that's also the lowest price point it has hit over the past 3 months... :) I've thought (often) about getting the Kansbol -- but I have the Bushcraft Forest. As far as I can tell, they have very similar blade geometries. Other than a variation in grip, the big thing with...

$15 on Amazon for tan Mora

I run the Honey price-comparing app on my PC, and that's the lowest price point the Morakniv Store has had for the tan Companion in the past 120 days (it seems to be a price point that it hits off and on). :) Just when I think I can't justify another Companion for "that empty drawer"...

    Back To Revolvers

Speaking of trigger-tuning a J frame -- I had my S&W 640 (.38 only) tuned by a local gunsmith several decades ago, and was left absolutely amazed by how well a J frame COULD be tuned... My only mistake was letting my wife use it... She promptly proclaimed it to be HER gun. :D

    Fighting Revolver

Love this thread... :) Of course, I'd always prefer to be somewhere other than where a gunfight is taking place... :D In a pinch, though, I suppose these might suffice as handguns go... 🤔 S&W 65 3" barrel S&W 686 Powerport 6" barrel S&W Governor

Why aren’t .45acp carbines more popular?

I recall that, back in the day, one of the gun rags (I believe it was Guns & Ammo) did ballistic tests of various loads in four calibers (9mm, .40 S&W, 10mm, and .45 ACP) fired from both carbines and handguns. The .45 was the only cartridge to LOSE velocity in one of its loadings when fired from...

TSA has gotten wise to "vampire straws"

I have a titanium ballpoint pen with a rear tungsten carbide tip for shattering a car windshield in an emergency... :)

Who is your “go-to” knife retailer?

As with others, can't say I have one "go-to" knife retailer. In the past few years, I've bought from GPKnives, Knifejoy, SMKW, GiantMouse, and Amazon -- all have proven to be reliable. There may be an outlet or two with whom I've recently shopped that elude me at the moment. :)

    Zombie tools?

Makes me think of something a Moro warrior would have wielded as he hacked his way through a platoon of soldiers while being riddled with .38 Long Colt, .30-40 Krag, and .45 Colt bullets (and some 12-gauge buckshot)... o_O

    Slapper

I've often thought about getting one of those, because I actually have the need to anchor books open (am an old-school hardcopy reader/researcher), and they always made me think of slappers. :)

    Shooting Pesky Red Squirrels

I still have an ancient RWS Diana 52 (purchased circa 1990 or so). It hasn't been to war against tree rats in ages, but undoubtedly would still get the job done. :) I only used iron sights back in the day (excellent sights!), but I'd probably have to scope it at this point to compensate for my...

Who actually utilizes a neck knife?

I recently (within the past few months) acquired a similar setup... In my case, a GiantMouse GMF1-FS skeletonized knife. It ships with a very nice leather sheath, but I wanted GiantMouse's add-on Kydex sheath for neck carry. My renewed interest in fixed-blade knives seemed to coincide with my...
