    3" revolvers: how effective?

    The NYPD Stainless DAO spurless hammer Speed Six's were counted as 3" because they were special order guns for NYPD IN 3". You had to have a 3" barrel or 4" to carry it in uniform. The older blue spur hammer Speed Six's were intended at the time for off-duty and detectives,they were 2 3/4".

    S&W Model 64 Question

    The ny-1 does mean it was made for nypd. They are very good guns. I have a 3" & 4" ny-1. They are made to shoot factory +P rounds. The duty round at the time they were issued was the Federal +P 158 grain nyclad non hollow point semi-wad cutter.
