Man shoots motorcyclist in "self defense"

There are a couple points that keep coming to mind after having read this thread... 1) ...and the most salient point of all: The rider was shot in the BACK. In the street. As in not approaching the shooter at that point, in any way. Bad, bad, bad juju. The rider evidently didn't enter the...

    Kindness at the Range

Didn't happen to me personally, but...kinda in proxy... I have a nephew, a real good kid, now attending a small university with intent to become an emergency room doctor. Very moral, solid type character, and kudo's to my brother and his wife with his upbringing. I particularly like his...

Responsible yet sad moment at the gunshop today

I recently presented a very nice , Magnum Gunsmithing built DSA receivered 50.00 pattern FAL, a case of FNM Port, a dozen nice mags, and a pile of accessories to my nephew. As a high school graduation gift. I had grown to like him a lot, despite the miles between us. A very moral and solid...

Heaviest bullet weight for .308 Win?

I actually have a full box of Winchester Olin Canada .308's loaded with 200 grain Silvertips hereabouts. Never shot any, but they're around if I ever think that I just gotta try. Should work just fine in my Savage M10 Tac. The Canadians must be using these things for moose. Myself, I...

    6.5x55 advice

In my M96, I'm sold on Reloder 22 myself, but I have always been fond of loading 160 grain Sierras...the 156 grain Normas that I shot when I first finished cleaning up the rifle convinced me. For me, it's that little sectional density thing taken all the way home. "Taint very fast, but it's...

Brass picked up in sand - need washing? How?

Heck Bushmaster, my wife actually understands why I "bake" my brass, and even hands me the stainless steel pan. I considerately line it with aluminum foil first... I have a huge plastic bowl dedicated to swirling that dirty brass around in soapy water. Followed by a real good rinse...

    Remington Model 10

Mine was my grandfather's. When grandma bought him a semiauto Winchester when I was a squirt, I used to beg him to take the old 5100 hunting, I liked it better. Sometimes, he would. That shotgun is my prized possession from his estate. Cheers, FNR...

    Remington Model 10

Very interesting and informative thread here!! I have one of these ole Rem's sitting here beside me. It's in IMHO condition good, original, and functions 100%. S/N 206xx, barrel and receiver match. Full choke, "turkey gun" configuration. I see no stamps indicating chamber size. It has...

    Possible move to Morgantown, WV

Morgantown... During the WVU school year, yeah, the town gets a different "flavor" than it has during the summer. But, it doesn't necessarily mean that "y'all can't be havin' any fun, hear?" either. It is a typical moderately sized university town with that yearly influx of a real spectrum of...

Considering some optics for my FAL

Quoting RoadKill: "I have a 14x Springfield 1st Gen combat on a DSA mount. Quick release, very steady. rk" That's two of us...Mine's on an older DSA SA58 Gray's Lake medium barreled FAL, original DSA mount, in Leupold QRW rings...ALWAYS returns to zero when reinstalled. They work well...

Any .357 GLOCK owners use .40 barrels???

I go the other way, swapping a factory Glock .357 Sig barrel into a Glock 27, and notice no deficiencies in function between the two...and mags for the .40 work with the Sig round 100% of course. -FNR.

    Is a .45 A.C.P. FMJ enough?

While this is an unpleasant task to discuss, it is one that becomes much worse if not done efficiently. If one must put down an animal, and they don't have the stomach for it, they shouldn't even try. Calling on a vet is probably their best option. I personally intensely dislike seeing...

    6.5mm bullet question?

    I personally favor the Sierra 160 grainers...-FNR.

    Stevens Springfield 20ga SxS shotgun

Yep, John, that looks like my shotgun. So, the "5100" is the model number, good to know. It does have the synthetic "Tenite" stock, it seems, which is intact. I would be interested in a source for wood replacement stocks, which I'd install, saving the "fragile" synthetic stocks for posterity...

    Opening up Primer pockets

I have a Dillon 600 primer pocket swager on the way, if FedEx Ground can ever find my house!! And a fair pile of US NATO 7.62x51 brass waiting on it. That old mid-to-late '60s Twin Cities Arsenal brass is especially heavily crimped. -FNR.

    165g Partitions for 30 06

Components cost versus factory ammunition... If you're talking about a pound of powder, and 100 (2 boxes) of those Noslers for $60, you are waaaaay ahead of the game pricewise versus buying 5 boxes of commercial equivalent ammunition. I do hope that a single 50 count box of those Noslers...

    Stevens Springfield 20ga SxS shotgun

I recently inherited one of my grandfather's firearms, which is the earliest that I can recollect him carrying when I first started going along with him on his squirrel hunts. It's nothing special collector-wise, but...of immense value to me. I'd like to know what model it is, and so forth, so...

    Springfield Scope Question

I'd speak with Springfield, they should be able to route the scope to Hakko, who made the scopes for Springfield Inc. Hakko has an operation in Miami FL btw. From what you've said, I'd expect some warranty consideration. -FNR.

No more brass to swage :(

I just happen to have ordered one through Dillon's website this evening as well. I have a wad of old TW Twin Cities Arsenal 7.62x51's with remarkably tight primers... -FNR.

best general purpose .270 bullet weight for white tail

While I don't even own, and never have owned, a .270 Win, I handload Hornady 140 grain BTSP's for my neighbor's Savage...I fundamentally like the heaviest bullet available in BTSP for boltactions. He's killed a pretty fair number of whitetails with my ammo, likes the formula really well. -FNR.
