Training classes in the VA area?

Check out John Murphy, FPF Training. He's based in Culpeper, but travels extensively. Solid training, no BS. Here's his website: https://www.fpftraining.com While Culpeper isn't exactly "eastern" VA (you looking for tidewater area?), traveling a few hours to reach a good instructor is worth...

Losing patience with my Hornady LnL giving me high primers

I taped a piece of thin sheet steel from Home Depot on the lower arm under the screw-in primer bolt to compensate for the dimple the bolt was creating in the lower arm. That seems to have corrected the high primer issue.

Where are reloading components available (Not a Discussion Thread)

Sierra .224 HPBT 52gr Just ordered these from Midway: Sierra MatchKing Bullets 22 Caliber (224 Diameter) 52 Grain Hollow Point Boat Tail Box of 100 at $19.29 ea. They have a limit of 10 boxes per order. Hope this helps someone. Still looking for good powder for .223 Rem.

Where are reloading components available (Not a Discussion Thread)

Thanks for the heads up on Midway and .224 Hornady FMJs. I ordered 500. I found 5K SRP two months ago, but bullets were simply not available. Now I need powder for .223 Rem - Varget, W748, H322, BL-C(2) or something equally suited, and I''ll be all set. At this speed, I'll be...

    Frankfort Arsenal Vibra-Prime version 2??

I'm in love. Mine came in today from Midway, and I chamfered the transfer tube where it meets the pistol grip (the black plastic tip), and went to town. After hand-picking up primers forever, this tool is a wonder. Yes, it can get stuck. But when it works right, its a dream. Really nice...

Does higher velocity give better groupings?

Iterating and closing in on the best load for your rifle can be fun, but it does takes deliberate effort, and time if you get to the range infrequently. Here's a useful tool to help measure groups consistently: http://blog.robballen.com/apps/SGA/

Does higher velocity give better groupings?

Sweet Spots I loaded W296 in 10 round batches at 13.8 through 15.0 grains in .1 grain increments using FMJ and 1.670" OAL. I found 2 "sweet spots" for my M1 carbine, at 13.8 and again at 14.2. Everything else opened up. None of the loads seem overpowered, but as the powder load climbed, so...

Do you trust your reloading memoy?

I was raised with "if you don't write it down it didn't happen." Its also important to dry run powder drops, seating depths, crimp amounts, etc., even when you don't remember changing anything on the press. The one time I didn't check resulted in me checking powder weights 100 rounds into the...

9mm Slight Bulge Fix With Lee FCD

This. (#14 on Wilson case gages) I test each and every reloaded pistol caliber round with an L.E. Wilson case gage. If it plunks there, it plunks in any SAAMI compliant chamber, which better be all I have. I've not had a single FTF with any reloaded round that passed the case gage test. Just...

    Sig M11-A1

Roverrich - your reply makes more sense than mine. Thanks. I didn't know they changed the slide as well. KYBlue - There are still lots of P228s out there, including Swiss police trade-ins. Some holster wear, but internals were great. I had mine refinished by CCR (www.ccrrefinishing.com) and...

    Sig M11-A1

P228 clone Its basically a reintroduced P228 brought back for a US military contract, and now sold commercially. If I recall correctly, it has the P229's 9mm alloy frame. Devotees love the P228 grip contour/angle and weight. Because of the frame swap, I'm not sure the M11 is precisely the...

How do you catalog your loads?

Software engineer by day, reloading junkie by night So I admit it, I'm a geek. I use a version of Filemaker database for the Mac called Bento. Its basically Excel on steroids, except it has customizable entry and report forms. I log all my reloading sessions with the usual fields: date...

Hornady Lock-n-Load & Diller Primer Warning System

All, For those of you with the Hornady Lock-n-Load, I've heard some have added the Dillon Primer Alarm System mounted to the top the primer tube to sound a buzzer when the primer tube is empty. I'm aware that Hornady did not plan for this option, but while I can add the alarm onto the top...

    Which Turret Press??

I love my Redding T-7 turret - its built like a tank and is unlikely to wear out - ever. The big ram and lever are solid. Just make sure you mount it well, this thing is HEAVY. I did spring for the primer tube system, and I bought another head to accommodate switching calibers quickly. Both...

    Berry's plated 230 grain rn

230gr Berry's RN with 5.0 or 5.1 W231/HP-38 at 1.260 works great in my 5" Govt 1911. Less is smoky, more isn't any more accurate, and just uses more powder than needed for range ammo (the main reason I reload). That's pretty much in the middle of the range for this powder. I started low and...

Suggestions for (used) 9mm single stack for range use

Sig P6 and other single stack nines I'm a big fan of police surplus european nines. All my single stacks came to me this way. My Sig P6 was a great single stack value for the money, as it is the German Police version of the highly appreciated commercial P225. I got mine for $365 and...

Sig Sauer quality is way down

I disagree I have 6 Sigs in the safe right now. While most are the older German folded steel slides with no rails (I don't like doodad add-ons), several are the newer stamped slide models assembled in the US. I even have several police trade-ins (US and European) and they are every bit as...

    RCBS Chargemaster 1500 - Reviews?

RCBS Chargemaster I got the RCBS Chargemaster to assure accurate, repeatable powder drops, and I am really impressed. I am particularly impressed with the automatic refill capability on the CM. Just when you finish seating a bullet in a charged case and crimp, the CM beeps with a ready charge...

Show us a picture of your reloading bench

Thanks Maverick223 - I like how it came out. The wood stain helps iron out the difference in grain between finish-grade pine I used for the shelving, construction-grade ply for the bench, and the treated 4x4 legs. I've noticed one drawback - the bench top is so dark it hides errant...
