300 win mag with barnes-x bullets............. moose, bears, elk, deer, goat , sheep,.......... one shot wonder. If you dont have to worry about brown bears... tiny 243 with barnes-x will kill them all one shot as well.:D
sure a 17 will kill anything if you do yer part, I dont trust that tiny chunk of lead,( on fox or yotes) and my 22 mag hasnt failed me yet. Im of the "if it aint broke-dont fix it" club. As for the 17 being "more" accurate? gun is only as good as the operator.... grouse & rabbits dont care...
speedakl... exactly, if not for brown bears where I hunt, a 243 with 100 gr barnes -X is all I would need. Most people equate magnum power as a for "sure thing",... Ive guided in 3 states for big game, Ive watched guys miss 50 yard shots at broadside animals. TV show's try to convince...
Perhaps a realistic question would be.... when the USA/world crumbles and it all goes "MADD MAXX". What is the ONE weapon you would own to survive on. Now you are talking man & beast. Which, at the rate of things,: isnt a far fetched question. Must do it all..... choose wisely grass-hopper.:uhoh:
I have to agree with you on the bullets. I knew that comment would "rattle" some devout 7mm fans. Dead is dead. The outfitter who told me that probably has killed more grizzlies than any person still alive. I think his point was, most people arent afraid of a 243 like they are there magnums...
I was working for a famous AK hunting guide & I asked him this very question. And this guy has seen & used them ALL.... 243win with-out flinching. WHY? He said everything you hit, dies as if struck by lightning. He hated the 7mm rem mag....WHY? Everything hit by it runs off, everytime...
22 mag from rabbits to coyotes. (within 125 yds) 300 RUM with barnes -X bullets will drop anything in North American. out to 1000 yards. very flat shooting & hard hitting. bullet placement & type of bullet account for more kills than caliber.
22mag is a great weapon... for calling in fox & coyote with zero pelt damage. 223 abit much at 30 feet, I know, ive blown holes in alot varmints at close range with 222, 223, 22-250. If yer not in a rush & under 125 yds....22mag will drop them clean. Also good for head-shots at 75 yards on...
