    Got this K-Bar today.

Nice knife. The USN MKII/Marine F/U is a classic. My first was a hand-me-down Camillus back in the 70's. Was my woods knife as a kid. Wish I still had it. Currently I have this Ontario laying around.

What type of EDC knife do you carry

For the last 3 and a half years I have always had a Spyderco Military on me. Three of those years it was a standard black G10/satin S30v version , often (but not slways )paired with a smaller Emerson or Benchmade folder. The last 6 months or so the only folder I carry is a Knifeworks exclusive...

Pics Only: Lowest cost knife you might consider for EDC if your life depended on it

You are entitled to your opinion, and you certainly wont change mine. So if the next model of Spyderco Ganzo copies is the ARK you'd be cool with it. As long as they mark it Ganzo? John and Sam's hard work is now public domain? Ganzo copies others design and RD work. I won't support that.

Pics Only: Lowest cost knife you might consider for EDC if your life depended on it

I know. The OP didn't ask for low cost knives. He asked what was the lowest cost knife you would consider for EDC if your life drpended on it. That is my least expensive folder I trust. Though it's my beater and I daily carry a CTS-204p Spyderco Military. I'm sure the Triad is strong but Lynn...

Pics Only: Lowest cost knife you might consider for EDC if your life depended on it

Here is the real one of the Ganzo clone ugaarguy posted. HK (Benchmade)14715 Axis. D2 steel, G10 and for $95 was, to me,the best value knife Benchmade made. Sadly discontinued when Benchmade stopped doing the HK knives. This is the lowest cost folder I have that I would trust my fingers...

Sharpest knife from the factory you've ever received?

My CTS-204p Spyderco Military. Super easy to keep it that way with occasional touchups on a fine ceramic Sharpmaker rod too.

    EDC knife for $200ish

Spyderco Sharpmaker. Quick, easy, and worth the cost. I don't let my knives get butter knife dull and give them touchups every so often.

    EDC knife for $200ish

Good choice. The Para 2 has a large fanbase for a reason, great knife. I have a black/satin S30v one. Haven't carried it in a few years though. Only because I am a member of the Military fanbase. :)

    EDC knife for $200ish

I have carried a plain black G10/ CPM S30v Military for 3 years. Great knife. Even better is the Knifeworks exclusive with dark green G10 and CTS 204p. Been carrying mine since Christmas, a present from my wife. Both are in your price range and capable of handling the uses you listed. I find...

Anyone have the cold steel smatcht

I carry a Karambit as well. Designed for reverse/edge out. John is correct you lose range. With a longer blade the range loss would be more noticeable. The loss of range I can deal with, my blade is just under 3". The way I train a longer blade wouldn't work all that well. Our live hand...

Anyone have the cold steel smatcht

The knife system I practice is Kali based, transfers well to stick and empty hand. However I am not truley a student of Kali. I practice Shaolin Kempo as a martial art. One of our instructors does have Filipino Martial Arts background, and is a fellow knife junkie. He does knife training on...

Anyone have the cold steel smatcht

I am in John's #1 type. I carry two knives, one for daily uses and one for last ditch SD. For a SD folder I have a Spyderco Matriarch 2, about 3.5" blade. Used reverse grip/edge out. The other folder is my daily carry Emerson which would make a decent SD knife on it's own. The past few...

Anyone have the cold steel smatcht

I'll second the welcome to THR. Sorry I can't be of any help with a Bowie. What I carry is radically different in size, style, and use.

Anyone have the cold steel smatcht

A concealed knife as a backup to a firearm is a sound idea. Just think smaller. Much, much smaller. Unless you never sit, bend , twist, or crouch in your daily activities.[emoji6] Edit to add this...if you are serious about a back up blade. Think about your hand-to-hand and how you can...

    Spring assist knives?

I'll second everything hso said. Be very careful at a gunshow, fleamarket, swap meet, etc. The counterfit knife industry is huge. Like he said, walk away if the deal is just too good. Also if you are looking at an AO just for speed many bearing flippers are just as fast. Plus the "wave" is...

S&W to buy Taylor Cutlery brands for $$$

I doubt it. If they did the knives would have to be priced out of their target market. Not a lot of gun guys willing to spend even $50 on a knife.

    Recommend a new Folder

I wasn't suggesting the OP purchase one. I was merely stating my opinion, to counter the opinion I quoted, on the usefulness and sharpening ease of a Tanto.

    Recommend a new Folder

Yep it is. And it does have a transition to a Tanto. It has a little belly as it also has a recurve.
