Looking for a Randall Left handed 1911

Randall Quality I know a person who owns several of the left-handed/mirror-image Randalls. The quality of the guns is second to none. The owner of these does carry and shoot one a lot. Has for a long time. It is true that finding replacement parts can be a problem. Since there are others...

    Interesting holsters...

I must be going blind. Didn't see any holsters listed for the 1911. Alvin

Pictures of my 6" trojan, uh huh huh

A friend mated a 6" barrel to a 5" slide and it works just fine. John Browning was constantly coming up with new guns. While I stick mostly with 1911 style guns, it would be interesting to see what he would have come up with. Take Browning and Paul Mauser out of the mix and I wonder what...

    Which handgun is most intuitive?

Back in '89 I watched a lady in her mid-50's learn to shoot. She had never handled a gun of any kind. She was loaned a 1911 chambered in 45 ACP by Jeff Cooper on the first morning of the class. By the end of the week Dennis Tueller had her outshooting half the class. I asked the instructors...

Who makes a decent priced 1 1/2" gunbelt?

Dickies belts from Walmart After reading about how great a bargain the Dickies' belts were I headed straight for Walmart. Those of you who think these make "good" gun belts haven't experienced really good examples. The Dickies will do until you can get something better, but you will be very...

    Instinctive shooting.

If one were to try to figure out what true instinctive shooting was I would think one would have to hand a gun to someone who had never fired one and never seen one fired. The idea would be to see what they instinctively did with the thing. We need to find a six year old child who has...

    Instinctive shooting.

Once one starts to practice something it is no longer "instinctive" by definition. Tests have been run at different times and at different schools studying the accuracy and timing of putting rounds into a target. Sighted shooting always comes faster beyond arm's length. One can pull the...

Tuckable holsters - do they work?

I wonder about these tuckable holsters that have leather straps or plastic clips that attach to the belt. That shows there is something hidden. Maybe it is never noticed. Sparks VM-2 attaches to the pants. The belt then covers the clips.

Tuckable holsters - do they work?

Have been using a Milt Sparks VM-2 for a couple of years as a tuckable. No one has ever made an issue of it. It did take a short while to figure out how to wear it and get used to it, but then I rode the short buses to school.

Glock "45 Glock" - no decimal....

    Taylor Knock Out

Kilgore, You might be right about 180 grain .45 bullets. I carry 230 grain bullets which have had no problem with complete penetration of pigs and deer. I load lead 250 grainers which also have given complete penetration of these animals out of a .45 ACP.

38 snubbies won't reach past 4 feet and CZ75 ROCKS

Snubbies - 4 feet? I used to believe snub-nosed guns weren't as accurate as longer barreled versions. A former university rifle team coach took my Charter Arms .38 snubbie and shot an unbelievably tight group at 25 yards. He said the short sight radius made accurate shooting more difficult...

    Taylor Knock Out

Taylor K-O One of the reasons the Taylor formula is "skewed" towared wider bullets is they leave a bigger wound channel. The Taylor formala has nothing to do with handguns. It was developed for hunting big game with rifles. As has already been said - Taylor, Keith, and other...

When do you begin to Triple-Tap?

The problem with just emptying the magazine into the bad guy is the possibility there might be more than one bad guy. Again, if the bad guy has not been impressed with what you have shot him with, then you might want to move your shots to a more vulnerable location. If you are confronted...

When do you begin to Triple-Tap?

Once one is in the middle of a shoot, moving to a safer place might not be an option. Jeff Cooper challenged us to count our shots. Even with 7 round magazines it is very difficult to not run dry. We did our best because getting caught with one's slide locked open on the firing line was...

When do you begin to Triple-Tap?

Body armor will stop most pistol rounds. Some heavy winter jackets can cause hollow points to open up and slow down real fast. Better start shooting somewhere else.

When do you begin to Triple-Tap?

Again, regardless of caliber, if the bad guy is not paying attention to the first two in the center of mass why do you think he'll pay any attention to further shots in the chest? The third shot goes into the eye/nose cavity. This area has no bone to deflect a round as it passes through the...
