    Case neck turning

I was curious About how much brass was left aft turning. I took a case that I had turned and increased the length of cut in 0.004" increments. I went to 0.016" total when it cut thru and separated neck from shoulder. I'm using an RCBS neck trimmer with their pilot/reamer. I'm not seeing any...

    Case neck turning

Thanks for the input. I searched the internet and decided to check with the experts. I was concerned that hitting the shoulder would weaken the brass excessively.

    Case neck turning

I apologize if this has been discussed. I was unable to locate any info on the site. I am converting 7.62x39 brass to 6.5 grendel. I have sized and ready for firing. I measured neck wall thickness to vary between 0.010-0.014" on all cases measured. Not surprising since it was necked down. Have...

    Reduced loads for fireforming

I am the process of fireforming 7.62x39 to 6.5 grendel. It appears the general consesus is to go to the minimum advertised powder charge. I did some measuring using AA 9 as it is a fine grain powder. Brand new unfired Starline 6.5 grendel would hold 33 gr of AA 9. Unfired but formed 6.5 grendel...

6.5 Grendel - questions and such

I had the same problem with reforming 7.62x39. I solved the problem by sizing then rotating the case 90 degrees and sizing again. No more feed problems.

    Lyman lathe trimmer or RCBS?

Powered RCBS trim pro with 3 way cutters. Works great and consistent. Every piece of 223 brass is exactly the same. been using it for 27 years. Wouldn't trade it for any other trimmer.

fireforming 6.5 grendel brass from 762x39

The problem is that Hodgdon does not list data for the 6.5 Grendel using IMR 4895.

fireforming 6.5 grendel brass from 762x39

The PPU cases that I'm using are at 0.014" thickness. So that equates to 0.292"dia. neck thickness. That is less than SAMMI specs of 0.300" for neck diameter of the chamber.

fireforming 6.5 grendel brass from 762x39

I plan on fireforming 7.62x39 into 6. grendel. I know this is not optimal but gonna do it anyway. I have 123 gr. projectiles and plan on using IMR 4895 for fireforming. I already have resized the 7.62x39 brass. I would like to know how much powder is needed to fully fireform. I have fireformed...
