Well, I hunt with all of my guns, including;
A 1927 Winchester model 54 in "30Govt06"
A 1917 Custom Remington Mod 1917 in 30.06
A 1952 Marlin Model 39 in 22LR
A Ruger Ranch Rifle
A 1913 Winchester Model 12 16ga
A 1932 LeFever 12ga SXS
Mossberg Mod 835 12 ga Magnum
etc.
I would try Brownell's Gun Kote. It is a bake on finish that is pretty tuff. You can get it in a spray can, but it is best applied with an airbrush. It is available in a number of black and blue/black colors.
Good Luck
Steel is more ductile than Ti, thus it is far more suitable for applications involving concussion. Ti use in firearms should be restricted to such things as BR rifles (where lock time is a consideration.
For duty/SD/hunting weapons it should not be used in fireing pins, where failure of the...
My bad (at my age relying on memory is not a good idea). The SAMMI spec for .223 is 55.000 cup, whiale the .56 spec is 62,000 cup, a still siggnificant differences, In addition there are very significant differances in the specs for the chamber (longer lead, sharper shoulder, etc.) SAMMI lists...
I use VFG pellets from Brownells. Their "aggressive" pellets will get out the crud/fouling (especially when used with J-B Non-embedding Bore Cleaning Compound/Kroil ) with no damage!! If you follow this up with fine pellets and J-B Bore Bright/Kroil you can clean up a horrible looking bore to...
Contact Boyd's Stocks, if you send them an exemplar (your old stock) they can make a new one with your choice of wood/finish. 'Taint cheap, but you will have a beautiful stock:)
This is easy to do yourself, all you need is Brownells nickle remover, a 12 volt auto type battery (deep cycle if available) jumper cables and a strip of steel for the anode. It is easy to do and pretty quick.
Good Luck
Any reblue willl destroy the value of the pistol. Short of sending it to Turnbull (mega-bucks) I would clean it with some 0000 steel wool an a good oil (for this application I would recommend Hoppe's). I have a 1905 S&W that has almost no blue remaining, but that is part of its history. I...
While truley original, unissued GI parts are interchangable, it is unlikely that you will find them. A poorly fit barrel can make a 1911 dangerous (here I am talking about the barrel to shroud fit. This is not a project for an untrained individual to do.
Good Luck
In order to tighten the slide to frame fit you will have to peen the rails on the slide, not for the amature (it requires expensive gauges to maintain the proper engagement). The grip sarety could require some fitting, but withthe Kunhausen books you could probably do thet yourself. Teh barrel...
Are you a right or left handed shooter? Where are you being hit (not "in the head", but "above left eye brow" e.g)? Where are your ejected rounds landing?
