An optics question for the AR15 tactical guys...

I can't use an Aimpoint as my primary optic. My astigmatism turns the dot into something that resembles a cluster of grapes or a comet depending on how tired my eyes are. I think the offset aimpoint would be fine as a close range CQB tool.

An optics question for the AR15 tactical guys...

I want to set up my AR15 as a general purpose rifle that can handle the widest range of applications - home defense, hunting, SHTF, or anything else that comes to mind. Given the options available, a 1-4x/6x scope seems like the natural choice. I am giving this a lot of consideration...

AR15 Back up iron sights - anyone try this?

I think there would be a huge market for a backup sight system for the ACOG that attaches to the side of the scope. It could be attached using the "sight tunnel" in your picture. The way I envision it, you would still have to roll your gun to the side to use it. But, it would have a much...

Ar-15 sights, Cannot shoot with both eyes open

No big deal. Shoot with one eye closed. Two eyes open is not the only or even the best way for some people to shoot. Most people preach about shooting with two eyes open because they think they are supposed to. Keep both your eyes open until right before you shoot. Close one eye and make...

Is bolt assist on AR really needed?

Civilian use or Military use - It is absolutely vital if you want to load your gun silently with 100% reliability. Discussion over. Case settled. It is a valuable feature. Next topic...

Is bolt assist on AR really needed?

Like the previous poster said: 1. FA allows you to silently load your weapon. Drop a round into the chamber and slowly release your bolt with the charging handle. Then, use the FA to make sure it is in place. 2. It allows you to do a chamber check silently. Same principle as above.

AR15 Back up iron sights - anyone try this?

Won't fit. Not enough room for TA11, rear sight, and front sight.

AR15 Back up iron sights - anyone try this?

Allaroundhunter nailed it about no where to mount the front sight. I went yesterday and practiced point shooting again. I was very surprised at how many hits I was getting on paper plate targets from 0-15 yards. Kind of remarkable actually. The speed was remarkable too. 0-5 yards was...

AR15 Back up iron sights - anyone try this?

Thanks. I am afraid you guys are right. It looks like I need to reconsider a red dot or add rails to my guns.

AR15 Back up iron sights - anyone try this?

Thanks for the replies. Just to summarize. 1. I wanted to avoid a red dot. The quality ones are big $$$. 2. My rifle has no where to mount an offset iron front sight. 3. The current offering of offset iron sights are crazy expensive and complex for the intended purpose (0-15...

AR15 Back up iron sights - anyone try this?

Thanks malakili for the link. allaroundhunter, I think that you are probably right about accuracy and speed issues. I have a Stag Arms 3H Gas block gun with standard plastic handguards. It has just enough space on the upper receiver rail for a rear sight. Unfortunately, there is no...

AR15 Back up iron sights - anyone try this?

My title should have read ... OFFSET back up iron sights ... I have several rifles with TA11J-G ACOGs. This is a great scope EXCEPT for one thing. It is less than optimal for dynamic targets up close (0-15 yards). I find myself point shooting. I am told that is what most soldiers do in...

PMAG M3 vs. D&H vs. UHMTG magazines?

Does anyone have any positive or negative experiences with the M3 PMAGs?

PMAG M3 vs. D&H vs. UHMTG magazines?

Which would you pick if money was no object? PMAG M3 - some reports of problems dropping free and failing to activate bolt catch in some guns. It appears to span many manufacturers - RRA, Colt, Mega, KAC, ect... D&H - Some people love them. Some people have reported problems. Not a...

Winchester 70 Sporter - Wood vs. Synthetic

On a wood stocked gun, if the barrel is free floated, will you still see POI changes with moisture, atmosphere, and elevation changes? I have heard it is a good idea to check the zero on your gun if you travel from a low elevation to a high elevation to hunt.

Winchester 70 Sporter - Wood vs. Synthetic

Thanks everyone. I have decided to leave the gun as it is and keep the walnut stock. You guys saved me some money!

Winchester 70 Sporter - Wood vs. Synthetic

If I were to go with a McMillan: 1. Are they drop in? 2. Do they need to be glass bedded?

Winchester 70 Sporter - Wood vs. Synthetic

Regarding sealing a wood stock Does the wood stock on the gun come sealed from the factory? Or, is there something else I need to do to it?

Winchester 70 Sporter - Wood vs. Synthetic

I have a one year old Winchester model 70 Sporter in 30-06 with a beautiful factory walnut stock. I like the stock. But, I just do not know how practical it is for a hard use hunting gun. Would I be better off for hunting purposes to put a quality synthetic stock on it? I am...
