Saw this in a shop in Minneapolis a while back..a percussion revolver with a loading gate and ejector rod...I'm curious...does anyone make cartridge conversion cylinders for this beast? I just decided that I need an 1873 to go with my 1858...
Whew...I have my loaded 1858 Remmy strapped on at the moment, as i tell my girlfriend...it's so I can get used to the extra weight on my right hip. LOL
Vern...are you by chance involved in Law Enforcement or LEO training? You've done your homework...and you're absolutely right...to this day I laugh everytime I hear someone parrot the phrase "never bring a knife to a gun fight." Bring both just in case. ;)
"Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy mother&*%$"- Puilp Fiction
On the Mississippi River grain barges in Minnesota, I've seen some at least this size and they're not cute little furballs...the barge hands have a contest every night...
I'm glad you noticed the irony of the humor...Old Sam Colt knew attribution doesnt equal belief..The National Enquirer said so...but when Sam Colt was the only game in town..he could say and charge whatever the market would bear...and arguably Colt's of that era are worth far more than...
X marks the spot.
I shoot pyrodex pellets and didn't want to emulate Pa Ingalls on Little House on the Prairie. Many an episode he cleaned his long gun with boiling hot water. Windex seems to cut through burnt Pyrodex slag better than anything I've come across...and store brand window cleaner...
Looks a lot like where I shoot...
My parents' horse farm has an empty pasture with a berm for a backdrop...perfect for shooting...except the first time I didn't think to check the wind direction...Shot my 1858 Remmy right into a nice headwind and suddenly found myself in the epicenter of a...
I'd trade a handful of Colts for a single Remington.
I just found this info on Uberti's site...and who knows more about the American Civil War than the Italians? LOL anyway it was this very quote that tipped my favor to purchase a Remington 1858 over a Colt. It was one point that soldiers...
what's the diameter of the fuse hole? and did you thread the finial onto the end or plug it with a bolt and use the brass as a cover? any details would be great...i'm in the shop right now. thanks!
Done and Done
I bought the parts and they showed up a week later marinated in grease...my buddy the ex-marine armorer put together and buffed & lapped all the edges..
It cycles the shells through like they were made out of Teflon frying pans..
without a flaw. I have a Cabela's Shotgun Shell...
The Not So Quick and the Dead
Hey Jaymo.. I was just yanking chains by the yard on that one....even Bill Hickock would've had trouble pulling off some of those shots at the end of the movie when the town was dynamited...much less crosshanded LOL
Charlton Heston and Brian Keith put on a good show as salty old mountain men who had a penchant for survival...I believe that old Liver Eatin' Johnson would approve of this movie...
I was just in Cabela's last night in Rogers, MN (Minneapolis area) and they had a used Pietta 1858 Remmie in the gun library for $199.00....I asked if it was owned by a celebrity or something and they asked me why? I told them because I can buy a brand new one for 10 dollars cheaper at the gun...
Pale Rider is my favorite...Preacher takes speed loading to a new level with all the spare cylinders he carries on his belt for his Remington .36...inspired my purchase no doubt.. Another good one is The Quick and the Dead...the one starring Gene Hackman and Sharon Stone. Until this movie, I...
another vote for the Ilion, NY factory
When I was trying to decide what kind of reproduction BP revolver I was going to buy a couple of years ago, I read everything I could find on the subject...and one particular quote from those who actually used the revolvers in question in mortal...
Thanks for the info..
Gracias for the info El Mariachi & Bud Tugly... I decided that money isn't really the object to increase the magazine size...I keep it around because I like shooting it and once i figured out how to dial in the poly choke, i'm comfortable shooting anything from #3 buckshot...
Thanks for the input, now I'll give it a whirl..
Busyhand94...just out of curiousity, what size shot and how are you loading it? Specifically....black powder or a substitute and how many grains? I may have to eat a piece of crow pie so I might as well shoot it with birdshot out of my Remington.
