I agree that some filmmakers now try harder for authenticity, which is why it's even more disappointing when some continue to phone it in.

Yeah, it is. Some on-screen firearm mistakes are minor and forgivable, especially in an otherwise good movie or show, but it gets annoying quickly.
For example, I just re-watched The Departed. Very good movie but sometimes frustrating to watch, considering the amount of gun-related action...
Stereotyping and disdain for any gun enthusiasts, whether they're Millennials, liberals, hipsters, or mime artists isn't useful. Better to focus on common ground. :)
