    favorite hunting reticles?

thanks for all the advice MCMXI: That Zeiss looks awesome. Speedo: That's an interesting point about the metric scope having finer adjustments. But I've been estimating in yards my whole life. I don't know, I guess if I never wanted to shoot it more than 200 yards (or meters?) it wouldn't...

    favorite hunting reticles?

Thanks! Thank you all for sharing your experiences and thoughts! I really liked the German #4 but I don't want to mess with metric. So I pulled the trigger on the one with the LR duplex. To me, it looked like it should have the benefits of the regular duplex plus just a little extra...

POLL: Which IWB Holster do you use & why.

crossbreed supertuck I got a horsehide crossbreed supertuck for my ruger SR9c. It is awesome. Very comfortable and suprisingly fast.

    favorite hunting reticles?

I need your advice on reticles, please. I just bought a stevens 200 in .270. (father-in-law saw it on sale 4 years ago for $190 at Academy. But he's got other hunting rifles so he shot it, literally, zero times. Never even took it out of the box. So I bought it from him for his cost) I...

Thoughts on Prvi Partizan/PPU Bulk Ammo for M1 Garand

Alaskan, I just put a dab of gun oil on the threads of my gas plug. I have not had it loosen from firing. I can't say about your handloads. All I can tell you is that my garand, with the garandgear plug, has shot factory ammo from military surplus up to modern hunting loads and I have...

Thoughts on Prvi Partizan/PPU Bulk Ammo for M1 Garand

Get the Garandgear gas plug. I did and I shoot any factory 30-06 without worrying about it. A small general store in the sticks that only has modern hunting ammo? Don't worry, it shoots it. Get lucky finding a sweet deal on old military surplus? It shoots that too. Without adjusting anything.

    need general purpose 30-06

I just looked up the Tikka. I'm really digging the looks of the T3 Hunter 30-06 in walnut and blue. I guess I need to go see if the LGS has one I can look at in person.

    need general purpose 30-06

I understand that you can get a very accurate rifle for just a couple hundred bucks. But I have handled some cheaper savages, rugers, etc. and while I have no doubt that they will shoot, I'm just looking for a little more refinement (smoother bolt, better trigger, more attractive finish and...

    need general purpose 30-06

Thank you for all of the advice!! The knowledge here is truly unmatched! To MistWolf and the others advocating the M1, don't worry. I already drove to Anniston, AL and picked one out to shoot and shoot and hopefully pass down to a son one day. Also, I am totally impressed with rifles like...

    need general purpose 30-06

Thanks for the replies! "Just one question. Why a .30-06?" It seems versatile. I do not handload (yet). There appear to be a good variety of factory loads for different applications. And if a store sells any ammo at all, they probably have 30-06. Down the road, if I get into...

    need general purpose 30-06

I'd like a general purpose bolt action 30-06. I would probably put a decent 3-9x40 on top and use it to shoot paper and hopefully deer, pigs, black bear or anything else I might get the chance to go after. Right now I'm thinking Kimber 84L Classic, Winchester M70, or maybe a Browning x-bolt...

Shot my first 500 magnum. Whoa...

@ Clemy - that's a sweet collection of 500s you got there. @ Confederate - It had the smoothest, lightest DA and SA pulls I have had the pleasure of experienceing. I shot it SA though because I thought I had a better chance of not jerking it in anticipation of the recoil. At about 10 yards I...

Shot my first 500 magnum. Whoa...

So I am at the local range, plinking away with my Single Six (with ammo I bought 3 years ago at "normal" prices thankfully). When I stop to reload, this guy plunks down the biggest, baddest handgun round I've ever seen. He goes, "wanna shoot it?" "Hell yes." I replied. It was a 4...

    best scope for 10/22 takedown

Just picked up a 10/22 takedown. Now I want a good scope for it. Since the whole point of a takedown is that it breaks down I want to make sure that the rifle still fits in the bag with the scope - unless the consensus is that those "quick detach" bases are really good enough to hold zero...

advice for light-kicking commercial .38 spl load

I gave my dad a 2.25" Ruger SP101 in .357 for Christmas. The .357 ammo was too violent for him so I told him to buy some .38 spl. He came back from the store with steel cased blazer 158gr round nose lead. The gun still kicks too much for his taste. Who makes a lighter-kicking commercial load...

garand re-assembly question - trigger assembly

I am trying to re-assemble my newly acquired M1 (drove to Anniston to pick it out) and I'm close but stumped. The whole gun is put together except for the trigger group needing to be put back in place. I can put the trigger group into the stock and it looks like everything fits until I...
