They never told me what the cause was they just repaired the rifle and gave it back to me. I took it out to the gun range this weekend and put 100 rounds of CCI maxi-mags through it and it ran flawlessly. My guess is it was an overcharged load but I honestly have no clue.

So we finally got it back from Sports World in Tulsa. They fixed it at no cost to us. They didn't replace the stock but I think I can live with a small crack.

It was definitely .22 WMR. It may not have been a brick but I could have sworn it was.

I contacted Marlin and they want me to take the gun to one of their Premier Service Centers. Luckily, There's one right here in Tulsa, so I'll be taking it in this week.
