    Berrys Bullets .45Cal 200Gr. RS

I had this issue when I seated Berry 200 gr bullets too deep. I used the RN seating depth and the die seated the 200 gr a tad deeper. And that "too deep" was less than 0.010". The round would hit the top of the chamber and jam. Once I increased the COL, they chambered flawlessly. Unfortunately...

    .45 backwoods loads

I carry my .45 all the time when hiking in Colorado. I alternate Hydrashocks with jacketed 230s in mine. I figured, it is not a hunting gun anyway, and there is a greater chance I may need it against a two legged beast than a four legged one. If eight .45s will not be enough, I am in trouble...

    SW 1911 opinions

I like the looks of them. But I found that I shoot a bit thicker handled Rugers better than the slim 1911 or Glocks that seem to have the wrong pointing angle for me. The only way to see is to shoot one. Maybe you can do that at the range? -P

    7.62x25mm Tokarov

I liked the way those hard chromes look, too. However, them saying that they "do those on site" makes me wonder - do they refinish those that are absolutely worn out? Anybody has one of those to tell us? I myself bough unissued when they sold them still and really like it. -P

    Clean burning powder for 9mm

It is my experience that only Bullseye is dirtier than TiteGroup... but nothing is cheaper, so this is what I shoot. I too keep thinking about trying cleaner powders after 200 of .45 downrange, but any time I go to buy powder, I see the clean ones for $15-17 and TG next to it for $12, and bring...

    .762x39 vs 7.62x54

I would go with 7.62x54, unless your weapon of choice is AK-47 full auto, in which case 7.62x39 would do  -P

Colorado Elk, 2nd season (Oct 22): general questions

Good luck! Concerns about altitude seem legitimate, but not showstoppers. I would recommend getting in a day early and taking a good hike, just to get used to it. Having a partner is a good idea, I think. Regarding the location, high up is thought to be better this early. They do stay up in the...

Anyone using Hodgdon's Tightgroup or Universal in 45ACP?

I shoot exclusively TG in my .45. Loaded FMJ, plated SWC, plated RN, lead RN and JHP in 200 and 230 gr, with 5 to 5.5 gr of TG. My .45 is black and I like that because stainless would get black very soon and it would be ambarassing. Sparks fly out of a 4" barrel and my buddy laughs, but it is...

    Shooting where you Hunt?

My observation was, at a range the game gets so used to gun fire that they lose all respect. In the wild I have seen both - big game ignore a shot, and then again, start running like there is no tomorrow, so I am not sure of the answer. Where I hunt they discourage target practice anyway, and...

Is it ok to carry a pistol when hunting?

Dr. Rob, I thought I did... take a look, page 7, paragraph 2 at the top: "Shall not be considered Concealed ... 2. The handgun [is] in the possession of a person who is legally engaged in hunting activities within the state of Colorado." - Colorado State Code...

Is it ok to carry a pistol when hunting?

I like the way CO handles this (I hope nobody catches it and pulls the plug) - concealed carry is allowed while hunting, handguns are Ok for small game, and coyote season is open year round. Connect these and you are Ok with a concealed handgun if you have a small game license (not in the middle...

Good deal on 45 ammo Just FYI

At a Walmart, one can buy Remington for $10 and with ammo I find that sales tax is less than shipping. Still, this is 18 to 20 cents per round either way. This is why I got into reloading - usually get them for about 8 cents apiece that way, plus you get your choice of loads and bullets on top...

    Getting Started in Reloading?

Perhaps my way is wrong. I didn't read thick books or watch videos. Just went and bought the Lee's $60 new cast iron Classic single stage, dies, Hornady reloadin manual and started reloading. It is not rocket science. Just pay attention to what you are doing and everything works out. I cranked...

    ADVISE me on shooting a .44 at 25-yds. ---

Do you have a chance to practice before that test? That would be my preference in your situation. I found .44 totally manageable, especially loaded down a little bit. Are you allowed to shoot handloads? If so, do it at the test; if not, shoot a hundred of them beforehand to get used to the gun...

    Getting converted... Help...

I visited with a friend, whos son in law is a 6', 250 lb guy. The friend told me, after he watched him fire a 10" 500SW and take a step back on recoil, he turned down the offer to try it. I think I wouldn't pass it up myself, just to see how is it. But the price of the 500 is a little too steep...

    Getting converted... Help...

P95, you hit the nail on the head: I just caught myself yesterday, paging through G&A, looking for more reading on .454 and thinking, eh, that Ruger Alaskan in .454 looks so-o nice. They say, stouter than a .44, but I seem to have no problem with a .44 at all, just a nice little jolt. I will...

    Getting converted... Help...

E-eh... No help from this crowd :) It is getting to the point where I actually like how the handle feels when it is carried under a light jacket, as opposed to the flush fit of the .45! Can you imagine a 629 as a carry gun?! Stop it, people! Tell me I am wrong or something... I loaded some 300...

    Getting converted... Help...

Hi folks, I think I am in trouble. I always considered myself a semi-auto guy. It is all my friend Cliff's fault, he made me shoot it. And now I fell in love with this little gun... How can you not like something that launches a chunk of lead almost as big as the whole .45 Auto cartridge...

My new pistol arrived today *pics*

Very nice CZ! Thanks for the photos. On the endless argument of how good the laws are for you: I would rather be an alive violator of anti-gun laws in any country having just shot an armed criminal attacking me, than a dead law abiding citizen.
