    In response to 20/20

While he makes some good points, I think that could easily be turned into a case for requiring training. Don't get me wrong, I think training is good, I just don't think it should be required at any point for ownership.

I got pulled over today... your gonna want to read this.

You guys can be a bit to harsh sometimes. I had a similar situation one time, I was pulled over for driving without my lights on in the fog! It was 9:30 in the morning, visibility was well over a hundred yards. Now I'll try to keep this brief. Officer argued with me when I told him I...

Great day, NEW XD .40 and a lesson in customer service

I love Cabela's, but I have experienced the same problems with the one that opened up in LA. and it seems now that everytime I go looking for something they don't have it so I believe I will stick with catalog sales and buy my guns elsewhere. XD's...I bought an XD40 last year with night...

Quiet .22 rd for 700-800 FPS

Funny you should ask, I just came in from my back yard where I was experimenting with some rounds due to the same problem. I'm using a winchester model 74 chambered for .22 short. The CB short rounds with the lead round nose bullets are pretty quiet and as long as you don't have a shooting...

Dear Son On Your Eighteenth Birthday... (yes this is firearms related)

That was cool. My son will turn 18 on Feb. 19. On the 20th he will be taking a two day basic handgun course with Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch at the Shootrite range in Alabama. If you don't mind, I will give him a copy of this letter before he goes. I might even buy him his own pistol...

"The Great New Orleans Gun Grab-Descent Into Anarchy"

I read it and second Xavier. Think you're safe? Think nothing bad will ever happen to you or in your area? If this book doesn't make you rethink your position and get your blood boiling then nothing will.

How many rounds to restore confidence in a gun?

On a new gun, a 1000 rounds is my minimum. On something I have fixed.....200 (which is a usual range trip) but I'm still skeptical until probably 500 rounds or more through the fixed gun after of course the initial 1000.

    Great New Orleans Gun Grab

Living about 40 miles north of N.O. I was close enough to experience some of the hysteria. I used to think all the threads on the gun boards about bug out bags or boxes and large amounts of "contingency ammo" was a little over the edge. Not anymore! Fortunately, my hunting, shooting...

    Gunsite recommendations

Well, I haven't seen the Grand Canyon and I was thinking about taking an extra couple of days and driving north then east along the southern rim, maybe up through the southeastern corner of Utah then back down and across northern NM. I'll be in a 4wd truck, is there any need to worry about...

    Gunsite recommendations

Thanks for all the advice. I will be making hotel reservations soon and planning my scenic route back to the land of mosquitoes and crooked politicians.

    Gunsite recommendations

Thanks. How far of a drive is it to Gunsite from Prescott? Looks like I might want to stay there.

    Gunsite recommendations

I'm making the pilgramage to Gunsite in November and thought some of you that have been could recommend where to stay. They send of list of local hotels, just thought some of you with experience could offer some input. Also, I will be driving from Louisiana and plan on making a long trip out...

    SAAMI specs, magazines, and reamers

I'm having a rifle built for me on a Remington long action chambered in 30-06 that I've had for a while. This will be my version of a scout rifle / all around hunting rifle. Apparantly, SAAMI specs have the throat of the barrel so deep that in order to seat the bullet out far enough to...

Anyone shoot the new Fulton Armory Titan 308...?

I'd love to hear back on this one. I'm considering a Fulton Armory M14....and then I saw the Titan. Any feed back?

    I hate carrying a gun

Through the eyes of a child! Remember, your Uncle Rob and your best friends dad thought it was necessary to carry back then too! In spite of the courtesy, etc., etc. I agree it's much worse now and if there ever was a time when it was necesarry it's now, but something had Uncle Rob...

unfortunately, a reality of lead poison- Condors

Interesting info, thanks Percy. I also appreciate your thinking regarding "a viable species". I'm very much a conservationist but sometimes we have to ask if conserving a particular plant or animal to the detriment of other species, including humans, is wise. I'm certainly not saying that...

unfortunately, a reality of lead poison- Condors

I didn't follow all the links just read through the threads. Does any one or any report indicate the numbers of dead condors found with lead as oppossed to those found dead without lead? Finding lead in one or two dead birds out of a thousand or even a hundred should not dictate major...

    Frangible Ammunition

As a side note, Don't kid yourself about using it in your AR as a home defense round thinking it won't penetrate as much! It will punch through a piece of 1/4" steel as fast as a FMJ at close range!

    Frangible Ammunition

I've been through about 2000+ rounds used up at a couple of Thunder Ranch classes one with the AR and one with a .45ACP. It's a little dirtier than some of the premium ammo but not as bad as some of the cheaper ammo I've used. Absolutely no reliability problems with the brands I used...

To bait or not to bait - special hunt question

Absolutely bait!!!!! Sure it's not enough time to get the deer used to having bait in that area but that's not the point. I've NEVER seen any animal spook over a little corn trickled around. I have GREATLY increased my shot opportunities at deer that would otherwise be passing by too...
