    Best drop in ar15 trigger?

From what I've seen, for under $100 the ALG trigger are generally regarded as the best choices. I got mine on sale and I'm pleased with it. Unless you have to have a single stage, the Larue MBT is what you want going up into $200. Its a great value at $125, and it comes with 2 springs so it...

    Best bluing touch-up?

Well, if you use something like birchwood casey's plum brown, apply it, then boil the area, it turns blue. It seems a bit more durable than a straight cold blue, but nothing near a hot or rust blue. I've only done it to a few straight razor tangs, so I cant really speak to how well it'll work...

    Shooting out a boresnake brush?

The only successful bore snake removals I've read about have been by backing it out with alot of force, or putting a screw on a rod, screwing that into the snake, then pulling it out. I think the running a wire through the snake suggestions in this thread might work, too...

Anyone Ever Assemble/Build a "Kit" Knife?

I've wondered about those. Can you get a knife that is better quality for the same amount of money with a kit, or are you pretty much just paying for a project?

Advice on removing textured spray paint from plastic

Yes, that's completely awful. Is it really off white or grayish like it looks in the pictures? You may just want to paint it until you get the $$ up to replace the furniture. I'm thinking whatever you do to get that stuff off is going to leave it looking pretty bad, and it'll need painting or...

Looking for some AR optics advice

If you're interested, amazon has a set of offset sights that are 35$. They seem fine, I have a pair. Cobra tactical or something. As for the red dot, the only place I can think you could put it on that rig would be mounted on the scope. I guess you could buy a few offset mounts, and use flip...

    Looking for a cheap optic

BSA doesnt have a stellar rep, I wouldn't pay that much for one. Primary Arms is usually considered to be the best cheap optics you can get. I have one and it seems to be pretty good for what I paid, though I'm by no means an expert.

How to clean filthy, slightly rusty old bolt?

If you have an ultrasonic cleaner, and the bolt will fit I'd try that. If not you might try boiling it. Just be certain to put some crumpled foil or something else on the bottom so the bolt doesn't rest directly on the bottom of the pot.

When will prices be normal again?

I'd say that it'll be 3-6 months before all things are commonly available at reasonable prices. Right now you can get decent deals, even on "in demand" items. There's a 99$ del-ton lower out there right now, though I'm not sure how longs its going to last. Some items might stay high, like...

Gun Control Supporters Launch Frenzied Campaign

Frankly, I think that much of the recent noise about gun control is just a distraction to keep interest away from the illegal immigration bill. Obama got burned pretty badly by the last gun control try, and hes not going to want to go through that again. But if the immigration bill goes through...

Anyone know how hot ejected cases are?

Ran across this gif a little while ago, made me think of this thread. While it doesnt add to the discussion, I think it might be relevant.

Anyone know how hot ejected cases are?

Really, I might try to keep what dignity I think I have and spend some time maybe building something respectable looking, but last time I was at the range I know my brass got mixed with in with a few guys banging away down the line, which wouldn't have been bad, except the range ammo sweeper guy...

Anyone know how hot ejected cases are?

I got the 325 from another forum where a guy shot once (I think a .40) and measured the ejected case temp with one of those laser thermometer things. It does seem kind of high-- at least for .45. I've had a few of those land on me, and they did burn, but it didn't seem too bad, even when one...

Anyone know how hot ejected cases are?

I've read they are at about 325 when ejected. I made up an absurd 3rd rate brass catcher out of a folding net stuck in a weight and I want to make sure that the netting isnt going to melt. I figure I'll test by heating some cases at 325 and dropping them in the net. If the net melts I'll just...

Keeping rust out of minor pitting

Let it soak, scrub, repeat. I've left parts in oil for extended periods of time and had the rust basically slough off. I'd left them to soak for a while, though, like months. It was a good synthetic with detergent, don't remember which one, might be Mobil 1

Keeping rust out of minor pitting

The coarse wool might be the root of the current problem. It might have scored the surface and given rust a place to purchase. Not sure how you'd deal with that if there is bluing to preserve. I guess I'd try to polish with extra fine wool then heat it and use wax or RIG. If there was no bluing...

Keeping rust out of minor pitting

Look like they are going for 380-480 or so on GB. You might get lucky at a local shop, depending on your area and such. Looks like some Russians might be selling low for what the Norincos are selling for high on GB. I'd guess parking would be about the same $ as bluing, maybe a bit cheaper...

Keeping rust out of minor pitting

Well, since its prone to rust, and you're not that concerned about appearance, you could just do a quick and dirty rust bluing, or just rust blue that areas that are problematic. Degrease as well as you can, apply the solution, let it rust, than steam it over boiling water and card. It looks a...
