Does the .38SPL still make the grade?

In addition to being a suitable defense caliber, the .38 Special is a reloader's dream.

Flush fitting 8 round 1911 magazines that work well.

I'm a fan of the McCormick Shooting Star. Sturdy, reliable, and not horribly expensive.

    Thanks, Corbon!

Thanks very much for the detailed information, Tony.

The marginal difference debate rages in 9x18

I'd think a Makarov or CZ-82 would handle 'em just fine. I agree with you that the PA-63 might be a little overwhelmed by such loads. You will find that the different weights have an effect on shooting to point of aim, so you'll have to remember what's coming up next in the lineup. :)

    Polish P-64

I'm not crazy about the six-round magazine or the heel release, but it's a sturdy little gun that's easy to conceal. If you get it, you'll definitely want to do the spring as mentioned above. J&G has 'em for $179, so $195 isn't too bad if it's in nice shape: J&G Page

    Sorting 380 from 9mm

I reload both 9x18 and .380, so I feel your pain. I've had to be very careful about labeling cast bullets so as not to confuse them, too.

Lee turret press 3 vs 4 hole

My Deluxe has four hole turrets. I use all four, with the exception of 9x18 (for which I am unable to find a crimping die). Popping past the empty spot becomes automatic.

    My first firearm

Colt Navy .36 (Uberti, I think). Soon followed, when I turned 21, with a Colt Detective Special.

    A little help this evening..

You know how you've always wanted to clean the kitchen ceiling with a toothbrush? Now would be the time.

    New 1911 Mainspring Housing

I have the flat (non-arched, I mean) snakeskin on mine, and it's pretty nice. Something that has always confused me about it is that the "scales" are cut in the wrong direction-- they're smooth going upwards, rough going downwards. Thus, recoil does not increase the friction.

    Concealed Carry Tips...

One of the great things about living in the Southwest is that you can get away with Hawaiian shirts for 3/4 of the year. :) I can carry anything up to a 1911 under them, but usually just a couple of Airweight .38s. I have a KelTec .32 that I think might fit behind an ear, but I haven't tried...

    Pocket Carry. Really?

J-Frame in a back pocket is really pretty good. Front pocket is harder (for me, anyway) to get the gun out of in any reasonable amount of time. I usually have one OWB on my right hip and another in the left back pocket.

    Don't like airweight snubs.

I've put a couple thousand rounds through my 642 so far. I like it enough that I got a 438 to keep it company. No problems with three-inch circles at thirty feet, and that's good enough for me.

Competition setup vs self defense setup

While I don't subscribe to the opinion myself, there are those who are concerned about using highly modified weapons for self-defense, due to what a jury might think.

    My 1st time shooting a 1911

If you get yourself a copy of Kuhnhausen's The Colt .45 Automatic-- A Shop Manual, you'll be well-prepared for home smithing. I know what you mean about falling in love with the 1911-- not only are they fun to shoot, they're fun to tinker with. I got a stock GI model Springfield Armory and have...

Polish Random P-64 in 9x18 when did it become C&R?

I've bought two guns that became C&R just thereafter. Makes me wanna bang my head on the desk. The P-64 was one of them, and the other was a Romanian Tokarev. P-64 makes a nifty little carry gun, and 9x18 is really easy to reload. I already keep the ammo on hand for CZ-82s and Makarovs and...

    Value of M36-2

Your local Wal-Mart should have some inexpensive Winchester muffs that work just fine. I think I paid $15 for mine.
