    Machinist gun owners

I work in an office job, but have a shop in my garage too, have always liked working on cars and have a great appreciation for machinery, which is part of the reason I love guns. The whole "snick-snick" feature of metal on metal, tightly put together and highly functional is something I really...

Thanks gang! I just came across the SIG P290 RS (in 380). Has anybody tried one of these? JJ

    Best Mouse Guns

Thanks Voodoun Da Vinci! I like Glocks on principle and shoot well with them. Maybe I'll rent a G42 and check out the size. The other "mini" Glocks don't seem very "mini" to me, although they shoot very well.

    Best Mouse Guns

Hi Fats, I'll carry it in a pocket holster, so that's not the issue. I was just thinking that a longer/stiffer trigger pull would result in a lower likelihood of an accidental discharge, particularly if my adrenaline was off the charts. If it were less bulky, I'd carry a snubbie (I have...

    Best Mouse Guns

Thanks folks. I have snubbies, and the CW9 is fairly small, but I was thinking that something the size of the LCP would be easier to conceal. I was impressed by the ease of shooting the LCP, but I just kept getting startled at how little uptake and pressure it took to light off a round with...

    Best Mouse Guns

Hey gang, I am about to take my CC course and apply for a permit. I bought a Kahr CW9 and ran 150 rounds through it yesterday. I realized that this pistol is too big for much of my life (dress slacks and a golf shirt, or dress shirt M - F). I rented a Ruger LCP and ran a box of ammo...

Hyatt Hotels Anti-2A...Find another place to stay

Part of the Illinois problem is that the State specifically does not protect employers for damage done by an employee on premises with a legally owned and carried handgun. Many (most?) states have allowed liability protection for businesses, whereas Illinois has not. I know of companies in...

Do you still have your first gun?

I bought it myself ay age 21 and still have it, a nice little plinker. I also well remember the guy down the counter from me in the store who, while they were starting my paperwork, asked the "gentleman" behind the counter how much he would pay for his pristine Walther P-38 (all steel...

Please help me choose a revolver

The OP mentions solid workhorse, then 7-8 rounds, which don't necessarily mean the same things to me. If you're worried about a CCW (7-8 rounds), I'd look at a Ruger SP-101 or a nice S&W K-frame (a few more bucks). These are beautiful looking and performing guns. If you want it for woods/farm...

    should i get another .357?

I like the concept of a gun that will shoot .38SPL (and +Ps) all day and never really wear out. It'll also be able to pack quite a punch when necessary. I think having at least one in the stable is a sound idea.

    Another Taurus quality thread.

I own 3 today, have sold two. Two semi-autos (PT series, no problems, still have one) and 3 revolvers. Two were trouble free, while the 3rd was a new model that had a forcing cone problem (lead shards and spark flew out a few times, along with some FTFs). I returned the problem gun and got it...

    Kahr CW45: First 214 rounds

I just picked up a CW9 and have yet to fire it. The dealer told me that it (and all Kahr semi autos) needs 200 rounds through it before I would think about relying on it, then to be careful to test specific SD ammo. It's really tight right now and I can see it needs a few workouts before it...

    Chile: Gun Owners Hell

I took my family to Ecuador a few years ago. It was a beautiful country, and a short flight from the Midwest (4+ hrs?). I thought about property there, because the people were so nice and it was charming. Maybe for a few months a year, or something like that? But I don't like the variability...

How many times have you heard a "gun jock" tell someone looking for a new gun...

My take on the OP is that the gun store clerk basically, in addition to being a blowhard, may have either embarrassed the customer, or sent the message that we (gun folks) are a bunch of Barney-Fife-armchair-commandos, or both. I recall being embarrassed as a 21-year old guy in my LGS. I had a...

question about mailing my shotgun back to me

There's a lesson here for those that think the NRA and other gun rights groups are "over the top." If the average American gun owner (even the guy with an old Stevens 12 ga. SxS that gets used every other season) was aware of all of these ridiculous requirements, they wouldn't still be the law...

    Formal Training Is Now Bad?

I haven't had much formal training, but certainly see the value in it. It's nearly impossible to carry where I live (at least today), but I do have a good understanding of the four rules and my "handy gun." When I can carry regularly, I will be much more energized about receiving further...

Got Ammo Need Gun - 1911

I'd look at the Springfield Armory Range Officer. If you're patient, they can be had for less than $700 on GunBroker. There is a dealer (also on GB) that is selling STI Spartans for $649, currently only in compact, but he has had full sized. He will re-stock them...

    Porting

As I read through this, with deference to OneOunceLoad, I realize I was wondering further afield in my comments. I was considering porting relative to rifles and handguns, not necessarily shotguns which I recognize (now even better) don't have the same pressures to contend with, or to...

    Porting

It reduces backwards movement because there is a fixed amount of energy generated during the discharge. Without porting, all of the energy exits the front of the barrel (unless it's a revolver, but this analogy would still hold largely true). With porting, the energy that exits the top of the...

    Porting

While not a fan, it makes sense to me that porting would reduce "felt recoil," as it directs some of the blast upward, pushing the gun downward, instead of backward. Total energy released is the same, but the amount that gets pushed back in to one's shoulder is lessened.
