I have an older Remington 870 Wingmaster that I am going to put a sling on. I am going to use parts order from Remington that include a stud type swivel that mounts in the butt stock. My question is how far from the end of the stock do I place this stud?

I agree with Ian. The only thing I would add is if are thinking about high powered rifles or handguns, think about a natural backstop or if there is an area suited for a man made one.

This was a great deal of help because it gives me the answers I needed about this gun before I wasted a lot of time trying to repair something that was not broke.
I have a J.C Higgins side by side 12ga shotgun that was made by Stevens for Sears and Roebuck. I know from a previous trip to the HighRoad that it was made in 1965. Does anyone know where I can get a manual or detailed brake down for this gun?
