Springfield will redo a Garand. They have different levels. I had them redo mine. If you are wanting to get one, go through CMP.

Use what you are most comfortable with. Just check local hunting laws to make sure you're legal as well. The 45-70 or 35 Remington would be a great choice. But then again, I'm a little bais towards those old rounds.

I found on another forum that the number 0 in the serial might be the letter O. If that's the case, it might be from 77 or 94. Either way, a 222 is a heck of a varmint round. My dad had one and it was a tack driver. We ended up rebarreling it to a 223 Ackley and never looked back.
