Sears 300 20 ga, not a Ted Williams?

Hi all. I recently picked up a nice Sears 300 20ga, 2 3/4", 28" plain barrel with a fixed, full choke, single bead sight, and no checkering. Barrel code is CF and the SN is Q79xxx, on the left side of the receiver. It does not say "Ted Williams" on it anywhere. Were all of the Sears guns Ted...

Police kill homeowner who shot intruder to protect his family after seeing him holding a gun

Just avoid interacting with cops, for any reason. Especially if its a tense or potentially dangerous situation. Sometimes it's unavoidable, and sometimes the cops are awesome guys (just like us). But sometimes they shoot mindlessly at anything that might kind of resemble something that could...

    Star BM 9mm range report

I got one from Aim, and it wasn’t bad, for the money. Steel, handy size, very good condition, not a 9x18, etc. But mine shot ridiculously high and left, and it choked a half-dozen times while trying to put a box of WWB through it. It’s no longer with me.

    FEG Hi Power trade

I traded off my last FEG Hi-Power for a minty Glock 26 with three holsters. Even trade. I got rid of the Glock, too, but I still kind of miss the FEG.

    FEG Hi Power trade

I’ve had a few FEG hi-powers, and they were decent guns. They’re getting pricey, too. $250 will get you a rusty, pitted, fake-roll marked clunker. They don’t make them anymore, and s good one is going to cost north of $400. I’d trade a plastic Ruger for a FEG Hi-Power all day long.

    Hearing protection when hunting?

At the range, always. At the outdoor range, I get my ears on before I even get out of my vehicle, because you never know what somebody else is shooting, or when. I mostly hunt birds with a shotgun, sans ear protection, and that noise doesn’t bother me. But my gun isn’t ported; I’ve fired a...

    Midland Backpack one-shooter?

Interesting. I could find a reason to make use of something like that, especially for the price. But as previously mentioned, a 12ga load in a gun that light doesn’t sound like fun. Why no 18” barrel option in 20ga?

Help a first time gun owner pick a handgun

First time gun owner? Until you know what you like, try not to spend a ton of dough. Something cheap and simple, like a Taurus 85 in 357. That’ll leave money left over for a holster and some ammo. Revolvers are rather more intuitive than semis, which seems like a good feature for noobs.

    Cheapest NEW 22 combo ever?

I had one of these that I bought from Gander Mountain a few years back. It was ok, it jammed badly until I had about 500 rounds through it and it beat up the feed lips on the magazine so badly that I had to replace the first one after about 2000 rounds. I traded it for a hi-point after a few months.

    High Point

I don’t get this either. How is a 9+1 ammo capacity it’s biggest flaw? Size, weight, trigger, proprietary rail, etc. But a magazine that is +2 on most 1911s is a big deal?

    Bolt-Action 30-30

Here is the rifle in question. Looks decent. I was going to trade my extra shotgun for it, but I broke the ejector spring in my turkey gun (Winchester 120 FTW!) so I don’t have an extra shotgun right now. But I might just pony up the green anyway, if I can get s good price.

    Bolt-Action 30-30

    That’s a fun bullet in a 30-30. I’ve run some through the model 94 using H4895.

    It's 1940, what's your CCW?

Hi-Power/P35. Classy, but not pretentious. But that’s pretty exotic for a midwestern boy in 1940. I’d probably end up with a small 38 revolver of some sort.

    Bolt-Action 30-30

I have an opportunity to pick up a nice looking Coast to Coast 843 (savage 340/Springfield 840) in 30-30. I don’t own a centerfire bolt-action rifle, but I do have a model 94, which reload for. The model 94 is a pain, honestly, because the sights are not great and I fear the scoping it is going...

    Least amount of handguns?

Just one. 28-2 357 4”. It’s ugly but beautiful at the same time. Rough on the outside, but smooth like butta on the inside. I don’t carry, so it’s my Plinker and Hunter. I have long guns for other activities not listed.

    High Point

Buy it. The C9 isn’t my favorite (the 45 is quite good) but they’re cheap entertainment, especially if you’re into shadetree gunsmithing.

    SKS or AR?

This is why I bought it in the first place. I don’t need an AR; hell, the box from PSA has been sitting there, unopened, for a month or two now. I have other guns for the range and for deer. But I can read the tea leaves, and there is going to be some gun control in our near future. I remember...

Locally the ammo shortage seems over IMHO

It’s been over here in Madison for some time. Walmart and Fleet Farm have shelves choked with 22 ammo. Production has finally overcome demand.

What choke do U use in your 12 g shotgun for turkey

I use Winchester Supreme XX Magnum Turkey loads. 3”, 2oz of #4, through a factory Full winchoke in my 12ga model 120 ranger. I could probably find a tighter choke, but the factory full does the job.

    SKS or AR?

I think I’ll stick with my AR build because accuracy is a thing. The SKS has it all over the AR when it comes to aesthetics (imho), but that’s all moot if it’s just a bullet hose and not a useful weapon. And I have a relative pittance into the AR kit and some mags and ammo; I doubt these things...
