    Anyone recognize this brass/caliber?

Maybe the guy described in this post was vacationing in your neck of the woods?

Los Angeles Times blogger makes fool of herself

FWIW, some years (decades?) ago, "Dear Abby" was using her column to call for a ban on handguns. In an effort to be reasonable, she insisted that " ... We don't want to take rifles away from duck hunters ...". Nope. Reckon that was the game warden's job.

How have/haven't you changed your behavior in response to the economic downturn

Stocking up on ammo, hand tools, and heirloom seeds.

My eyes have been opened, I want to go hunting.

Seeing them try it would actually be good for a few giggles. :D Women in fur coats aren't nearly likely to kick the living snot out of the paint-slingers.

    Any other liberals?

Issue for issue, I swing "left" at least three times as often as I swing "right", to the extent that either of those terms really means anything. In current popular usage that probably makes me a "liberal". On the more complex two-axis political spectra I come up consistently...

Identity and Date of Manufacture of S&W Revolvers

Brian, Thank you! Turns out this one is a little older than I'd suspected. (Still shoots very nicely, though.)

Identity and Date of Manufacture of S&W Revolvers

Thank you for offering to do this! Here's an M&P snubby I'd really appreciate a DOB on: a) caliber: .38 Special b) bbl length (from cylinder to muzzle): 2" c) grips shape (round or square): square d) number of shots/cylinder bores: 6 e) type of sights: fixed f) serial number, and if there is...

    H and R Handi-Rifle

I have one in .45-70. So far I've only been able to shoot it with the 300 grain Winchester factory loads that the shop had in stock, but with those it's minute of pie plate from field positions (mostly offhand). I can't wait to try it with a few different loads, preferably using cast bullets.

Do you avoid going to countries that don't respect RKBA?

I avoid even traveling through US states that have restrictive gun laws--NJ, CA, NY, MA, and IL come to mind. I'm a lot more willing to visit non-US countries, and their gun laws per se aren't that much of a factor. Heck, I spend more time in the Bahamas than in the US. I work here...

    A Rant In Progress.....

Ooohh, now that is canonical rant fodder. From what I've seen on YouTube and various forums, there are more than a few such people. Nobody has ever pulled this crap in front of me in my adult life, though, and it's just as well; I might very well go off on him (verbally!) right then and there...

    Poll: Rack the shotgun?

This makes the most sense to me also, in a HD context. I do, in fact, keep my 870 with chamber empty, for reasons that you (and others) have already covered. It's just that I would be racking the slide to chamber the first round, not assuming it would scare the BG away. If it did have that...

    Recommend to me a rifle...

The first 3 that occur to me are, in descending order of personal preference: 1) Any good lever action in .30-30, or perhaps in one of the handgun calibers (e.g., .357); mine is an older Rossi M92 in .44 Magnum. 2) a CZ-527, in either 7.62x39mm or .223; mine is the latter. 3) A...

    Poll: Rack the shotgun?

That might not be a bad idea, and there's sort of a precedent; they were selling soundtracks of large barking dogs years ago. Also, if it's an HD situation and you have a surround-sound system, it negates the previously cited "now he knows where you are" factor. :D

    Poll: Rack the shotgun?

Never tried it, don't know if it works, and am unwilling to gamble my continued consumption of oxygen on the willingness--or ability--of any particular goblin to take such a subtle hint. If "DON'T move!"--pronounced loudly, enunciated clearly, and amplified by the fact that I'm eyeballing the...

IF I were to buy a Savage

Oh, man, I hope they bring back the 99. I'd be all over one of those in .308.

Oh. My. Bleeding. Eyes. This has got to be a joke.

    kinda strange

Yep. Years ago I knew a guy with a thing for submachine guns. His gun collection made me almost literally drool, and his car was the gawdawfullest POS on the base. Worse than mine, even, and that was saying quite a bit.

What caliber do you carry most for Self Defence?

    Usually .38 Special in a S&W M&P 2". Otherwise 9mm in a G19.

    You just can't fix stupid

Hey, that's not so bad. I once convinced a co-worker that King Diamond was Neil Diamond's brother. Admittedly his, ah, misunderstanding was at least half my fault. :D
