    Question about steel targets

The scrap metal probably won't be hard enough for rifle. It might not even be hard enough for pistol, so be careful and ask lots of questions when buying the scrap steel.

Favorite Gun related purchase of 2008 AND Gun Related New Year Resolutions

Training. I attended the two-day Fighting Pistol class and two-day Fighting Rifle class with Tactical Response. Great classes and I improved my skills tremendously. As much as I enjoy buying new guns and accessories, I really prefer knowing how to use them to the best of my ability. My...

    Question about steel targets

Generally speaking, if the steel is rated for rifle, it will be fine to shoot with handguns. Make sure that you shoot your rifle from a long, safe distance. I think 100 yards is good, but you can shoot closer if you angle the steel downward so that all the impacts are deflected into the ground.

Art, Some of us didn't lock into high oil prices, we waited for the coming drop. :D Maybe some of the ammo companies and suppliers are equally smart and lucky.

    Bill Cosby?

The belt... I have a clear, strong memory of the sound of a leather belt being whipped from belt loops. It does not bring good feelings.

    Double tapping Striker-fired pistols

That is exactly it. Next time at the range, shoot slowly and concentrate on releasing the trigger just enough to reset it. Don't allow the trigger to go fully forward. Do that 50 times, every time you go to the range. Couple that with a proper draw, sight alignment, and dot drills and...

    Tell me about progressive presses

If that is all you load in one session, then you won't get much benefit from a progressive. A progressive press is best for large batches. When I go to load ammo, I load about 400 pistol rounds in one session. That session typically lasts about 1.5 hours including set-up and clean-up. Any...

Anybody know what the new SA XD-M caliber will be

Yep. The ad says to look for it at your dealer in a few months. On a related note, in which category is the XD-M for IDPA and USPSA?

    i don't compete in 3gun competition because...

I answered "requires too much equipment." Frankly, I don't care to shoot shotguns much. I enjoy a round of trap or skeet every now and then, but 3-gun is too much for me. What I'd really like to see is more 2-gun matches. 1 rifle/carbine and a sidearm. Run it like IDPA or USPSA and I'm in.

    Handgun at the airport.

There are no FAA or TSA regulations concerning guns and private aircraft. As long as your airport has no regs against it, you're fine. Most general aviation airports are open to the public, and are not prohibited areas. Is that DW Hooks airport?

    1911 frame

smee, If you want to build, instead of buy, a 9mm 1911, look to the IPSC/USPSA race gun manufacturers. Caspian, STI, SVI, etc. I don't know them all. I'd say that the USPSA community has the lock on 9mm 1911 info. since the 9mm variants are used in competition there.

    Your Shooting

600 yards in NRA High Power. My first match was just a few weeks ago. Funny thing... I shot better at 600 than I did at 200 and 300. Before that match, 300 yards was my farthest shot.
