    rock salt: Lethal or not

Salt in my gun barrel? I shoot a Mosin with Russian military surplus ammo & shoot blackpowder and BP substitutes. I often clean like there's salt in my gun barrel. So not a big point to me. When I experimented with rock salt in 12ga shells I used BP just to connect to the 19th century. I...

    Mare's leg type guns- why?

You might get the impression Mare's Legs are common in Movies or TV but what I found on Internet Movie Firearms Database: Year Film/"TV Series" Character (Performer) 1958–1961 "Wanted: Dead or Alive" Josh Randall (Steve McQueen) 1968 Minnesota Clay Jubbs (Ferdinando Poggi) 1968 Once Upon a...

    Mare's leg type guns- why?

Before the federal 1934 National Firearms Act made them AOWs or SBRs, factory-made .410 single shot pistols with 12" or more length barrel were not classified as pistols or handguns in several southern states pistol laws (pre-1934) because they more likely to be carried by trappers for defense...

Chinese Norinco MAK90 milled parts kit?

The three hole receiver simply needs to disappear from the face of the earth. Beyond recovery. Along with any full-only FCG parts.

    Gun-toting lawyers in Arkansas

Personally I would not want to carry in court. I have thought through the scenario of trying to retain my carry piece against a desperado or hot head in court should they try to take it.

    1897 ammo

These days some folks think .410 anything is a myth made up by old timers. When I took my MIL on a Sunday drive in the country in the late 1990s, I'd stop at a country store on the way and buy a box or two of these. They pattern closer from my .410 than the 3 inch 5 pellet 000 load. Which I...

    You know that sick feeling

You call that pulling a shot? I could feel the butt slip on my shoulder as I pulled off the third shot that landed at 8 o'clock in the 8 ring. I know that sick feeling all too well. That was my 100yd Benchrest Black Powder Cartridge match target. The buffalo was looking back at me with smirking...

    .357 Magnum Rifle

I got my .357 handgun (Ruger Security Six stainless 4" barrel Hogue grips) because it has all the features you'd pay extra for in a .38 Spl target revolver. .357 out of my Rossi lever gun surprised me. From my pistol .357 158gr JSP splatted on my 3/8ths inch thick steel swinger. From the 20...

Large pistol magnum primers in rifles

I use large pistol magnum primers in rifle cartridges in black powder (Goex, Swiss, Pyrodex, Triple7) loads only. I do not use large pistol magnum primers in smokeless powder loaded rifle cartridges. My son or grandson may inherit my rifles and ammo. Large Pistol primer cups are a little bit...

    ammo interchangeability

My son got a great deal on a ".380" Makarov. Yes some Makarovs were sold rebarreled for .380. The owner was up front and said the functioning was not perfect. Turned out this one was original 9x18mm Makarov caliber so yes .380 ACP was a sloppy fit. Shorter case. smaller diameter bullet. So-so...

    ammo interchangeability

It's been a while since I heard a Savage Model 6 called a "Gill Gun". Stepdad had one. Worked semiauto for .22 LR. You could push the steel bolt handle in to lock the bolt for short, long, long rifle. The "gill" vents helped reduce fouling build up around the bolt head in semi- auto mode.

Makarov Slide Closing On Mag Insert

From the Wikipedia write up on the Makarov PM (which marches my limited experience wth my son's Makarov): "... After firing the last round, the slide is held back by the slide stop lever/ejector. ... After loading a fresh magazine, the slide can be released by pressing the lever on the left...

Hypothetically what would be your choice: Uzi in 9mm w/ 16 Mags or Winchester Lever Action in 45/70 w/ 100 rounds of ammo?

.45/70 lever gun I could use in Black Powder Cartridge matches and it would be as good a choice for stopping a bear attack as my current designated bear defense gun (12ga pump with slugs). 9mm Uzi in black powder could not knock down a steel ram silhouette target at 200 meters and would...

    Big deception with S&B lpp

9 hangfires and one squib. Squib could be a case with little or no powder Hangfires indicate a different problem. I haven used current S&B primers for relloading but the S&B ammo always have fired for me. But all my guns leave serious firing pin indents.

    Burro Defense Gun

Wild burros are not common here. Mostly I'd encounter something smaller, maybe rabid. Good thing for me. Since adult burros weigh 350 to 500 pounds, a gun suitable for burro defense would probably kick like a mule.

ATF Raid on Airport Exec in Ark, update

Buying a gun from a ffl to turn around and sell it 24 hours later, multiple times, looks to me like a clear case of engaging in the business without a license. I would expect to be on the radar if I did that, just from reading the 288 page guide to federal firearms regulations.
