What clever little things have you "invented or discovered" that you can share?

I measured the thread to thread spacing on my Lee bullet seating die at .040". Dividing that by 8 gives me .005" per mark.

Is this brass ready for the scrap bin?

It's only your eyes in question. If the brass splits when fired and blows a case out the back of the chamber, many guns will hold the pressure. Lever guns are especially strong, right? It might blow up in your face, but you're gonna get free health insurance pretty soon, right? Why worry?

    Problems with Monarch Brass?

I have found that 223 PPU is a bit bigger at the case head than other cases. Sometimes I have difficulty getting them into or out of shell holders. Not my favorite 223 brass, but I've never had a malfunction with reloaded PPU brass in my AR. I have enough 223 brass that I put PPU into my "rainy...

Need your opinions for my research paper!

    3. If you have ever been anti-gun, what event in your life made you decide to be pro-gun? Although I grew up in a rural area where guns were ubiquitous, I later became doubtful of their value in a peaceful society. Shortly after my first son was born, a young father was found dead in a nearby...

Roberto Pulido Sr. showed me his trophy room and pics of his son Bobby's African hunting trip. Really gracious gentleman.

    .223 Reload Costs

I was just looking at the same thing this morning. The least expensive bullets and powder I found were at Hi-Tech Ammo. Although primers can be had elsewhere for a little less, the HazMat and one shipping charge make it economical to buy the whole package at one place in this case. 55gr FMJ...

    unconcealed while not in uniform

Tom, that's not the same "sporting" reference. Sections 46.02 and 46.03 refer to prohibited places to carry. http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/docs/PE/htm/PE.46.htm NOW THEN. The above three statutes, 46.02, 46.03, and 46.15, have had dozens of changes to them over the years. You should...

    unconcealed while not in uniform

IN TEXAS IANAL YMMV This. You can carry a handgun openly in your hand if you are walking around selling or have bought a handgun at the gun show, right? If you have a CHL you can't carry concealed at any gun show I've been to. Therefore, when at a gun show, I tuck my shirt behind my...

    might wanna look at this

I don't want to pour water into my guns either. However, I live in South Texas near the Rio Grande. It's hot and it's humid. I often work outside and sweat enough to drink two or three gallons of water per day. I want something that prevents rust. I carry a Glock and had rust on the slide when...

    Wolf SRM and SR 223

I had pierced primers in .223 in an AR when using the regular Wolf Small Rifle primers with quite mild loads. Wolf Small Rifle Magnums perform very well for me with hot High Power loads. It is my understanding that the priming compound is the same but the Magnums have a thicker cup.

    Please help with this decision!

    Between a J-frame and a Kimber? That's easy, J-frame every time. Between a J-frame and a dependable .45 like a G21, M&P or XD? Tougher call.

    Garage

I responded that way because Steve threw a lot of stuff out there and his point kind of seemed like "Your garage is a castle." From reading his posts he seems like the kind of guy to enjoy life despite its risks, so I really take from the original post that we should mitigate dangers. I said...

    Collect brass or buy new?

Buy? I don't understand your question. Do you buy diamonds? Do you buy oil? No, like brass cases, these can be found in nature. Shoot, I think my range was built over an old ammo quarry. I walk around and find cases on top of the ground all the time. The blue coffee cans hold 400+...

    Garage

What about when I'm mowing the yard? Can I come out of the house and garage? It's certainly worth considering the value and liability of a garage when entering and leaving a vehicle. However, I only consider a garage a secure storage area for a car. It's not a fortress and not without serious...

Realistic accuracy expectations on the AR-15 platform

The Trouble With 3-Shot Groups Stack the five targets on top of each other. You'll have a 25 shot group that tells you what your gun will do day in and day out. That is your realistic accuracy expectation. If you shoot enough five shot groups, you are bound to shoot some that are under an...

    Gun Snobs lighten up!

I am not a snob nor well-to-do. You don't have to be either to carry a Glock. If you say your Hi-Point is a poor man's Glock, you're just wrong on a level that you probably don't understand due to inexperience. I have a couple of teenagers. It is a struggle to teach them anything even though...

    9mm and .223 Primers

I have used CCI Small Pistol Mag primers in an AR with moderate loads. They looked no worse for the wear than CCI Small Rifle. Unfortunately, I had a couple thousand left over when primer prices went down and have been forced to buy a nickel L-Frame .357 to use the rest of them. On the other...
