    45-70 Factory Ammo Question

I have an 1873 Cadet model trapdoor Springfield in good condition...no rust or corrosion. I had shot some Wisconsin Cartridge Corp. 300gr JHP ammo I got with the gun many years ago, and everything worked fine. I know little about the old trapdoors but might try to take a deer with it if I draw a...

Is It Time To Stockpile Ammo?

I am of the opinion that we should be adding to our loaded ammo personal reserves, not playing spray-n-pray games and leaving the ground glittering with spent brass. A global conflagration is a real possibility, and there won't be recreational shooting if it happens. My two 21y/o grandsons and...

    Knife or Gun?

Is this a knife that also serves as a gun or a gun that is also a knife? How useful would it be?

    Does Anyone Fire Lap Barrels?

I do on occasion and always run a couple of medium fine abrasive through new barrels that look a little "unfinished". I bore-scope new barrels before I run anything down them, and I have found that the Ruger American barrels are about as nice inside as any I've seen, so I don't do anything but...

Anyone Else Use These On The Shooting Bench?

Sometimes when I'm having a problem working up an accurate load I take this and various components with me to my bench, so I can experiment right there. Does anyone do any loading at the shooting bench and how??

    Press of Choice

I'm still getting by with my RCBS Jr I got in the 1960's. I always wanted a Rock Chucker, but I never ponied up for one; my Jr worked well. In 1969 I almost made the Big Jump. I started loading 300 Wby. I still load the Wby and loaded for 416 Rigby and 375 Wby, still on the old Jr Press...

    300 Win Mag Coming

I need something affordable and not too heavy. My old German/Sauer Wby MK V 300 Wby has gotten to be a problem for me to carry and shoot with my crippled left wing, so I am trying a Mossberg Patriot 300 Win Mag. The Patriot I got recently in 243 shoots remarkably well, far better than the pre-64...

    I Hate Rifle "Combos"!

I would like to buy an Axis II in the hardwood stock, but all the offerings have a cheap Bushnell scope and rings that are too high included in the price. I have NO use for the cheap scope or rings, but they don't seem to offer the gun without at a reduced cost. SO, I won't buy the new rifle...

    Ruger American Mag Question

Will the Ruger SA magazine for 243, 308, etc work for 22-250?

Anyone else use the vintage 9.3X62

I ran onto this round years ago when I was gearing up for a moose hunt and had decided on getting a new Remington Classic in 35 Whelen. I did, and the rifle shot patterns, not groups. After doing the usual bedding tricks, changing scopes and mounts, trying an encyclopedia full of loading data I...

    Ruger American Predator 22-250

I ordered one today that will replace my Savage 340 in 222 as my coyote rifle. With more urbanites from Kalipornia moving in around my desert oasis the dogs are getting skittish. I figured I needed 100 yards or so more practical range from a coyote gun now. I have a Burris FFII 4.5-14 sitting...

    Any SXS Shooters?

Was wondering whether some here like double trigger SXS doubles? I'm kind of partial to them.

    Any Love of the 9.3X62?

IMO it beats the 375 H&H as an everywhere, everything round. I like the 5-down, lighter rifles, and slightly milder recoil, and the old Otto Bock 9,3 is inherently accurate with about anything it's fed.

    Need Opinion Please

Anymore I'm living on tight rations... I would like opinions on this as an every day CC. I have my Ruger ec9s and like the gun. It always digests anything I feed it and is highly accurate for what it is. The extra oomph of a 40 has an appeal to me, and my budget can't tolerate the more...

    This Does It All

I couldn't afford it, but the price was doable, and my drug of choice is a combination gun, drillings, cape guns, BBFs... It's a circa 1938 BSW two barrel cape gun/SXS set. These were Simson just before the Nazis ran them out of Germany; Simson was a Jewish family. It's a rare gun in that the...

    Glad to Be Back

I just want to say I am glad I came back here where civility is the norm. I hope to connect to some old friends I made on 24HR, which I just left and loath. Guys bump heads, but done with respect is just good fun. Regards, L2S

    Drilling for Upland

Owen and I hit our grouse spot one last time for the year and will now let it rest, so there'll be a good bird carry over for next season. We got our two-bird limits. The Simson 90 drilling in 12ga and 7X65R proves to be a good upland gun with the top tang safety and a decent weight for a...

    Bust-Azz Blues Today

Getting these two blue grouse, our daily limit, was pretty hard work today, and the 4 1/2 hour round trip adds to the pain a bit, but it sure is a lot more fun than watching overpaid primadonnas doing tribal dances on Astro-turf. Besides, the Niners played on Thursday, so today was a good...

    Grandson's first big blue

Owen and I took Cookie and Jenny for his first blue grouse hunt today in central NV high country. We each got a hard-earned bird after tough climbing in heavy cover and steep terrain. Was it worth it? Look at his smile and mine. YOUNG JENNY HAD A GREAT TIME!
