Don't stop and help people on the side of the road

The comparison with the unlocked door is mainly where that statement came from. Agreed to an extent as each situation is different and evolves in it's own way. But, each situation explored (directly or indirectly) also adds to the pool of experience we draw from and increases the chance of...

Help! Ideas on gun (gift) for husband

Welcome to THR! I'm willing to bet he would love anything you selected simply because it was from you. I'm with the others who suggested a .22. Relatively cheap all day fun for target practice. I have always been a fan of Rugers revolvers...

Don't stop and help people on the side of the road

I have to disagree. Stopping to help others does not mean that one is unaware, not cautious, or has not taken any steps to insure their safety in doing so. Leaving your doors unlocked is personally irresponsible and is based more off of hopes rather than an evaluation of a given situation and is...

Don't stop and help people on the side of the road

I have helped and been helped many times and the cycle will continue as long as I do. Each person has to live by their own conscience and act accordingly within their own abilities. Regardless if it is direct or indirect aid I would hope that most if not all THR members would do something...

Always meet strangers in a public place if you are doing a private sale.

Other than gun shows and websites the only strangers I have bought from or sold to have been High Road members (usual CHL holders). This gives me a chance to review their posts and get a feel for the person before a transaction is agreed upon. That being said I do prefer public places. I...

    Self Defense Shootings

Barring LEOs, Military, and those within the security industry are there any statistics available that note the number of rounds fired in a self defense scenario between those with some if any professional training vs. those without professional training?

Concealed Handgun Licensee Stops Philadelphia Hospital Shooting

If one of these was the Dr's how long after (if he is no billed) before his firearm is returned to him providing such a shooting needs to go to the grand jury? Sadly he may still lose his job.

Need a ultra cool gun to add to my collection!!!

For the cool factor how about a Mateba in .44 magnum or V-16 .45 Super? The two problems are finding one and finding one at a reasonable price.

$1000 to invest for a 2y/o - options and storage

I have not fully read all the posts but I would say keep it for education as intended. Does Louisiana have something like a Texas Tomorrow Fund (prepaid tuition plan) for education? Starting early ensures that his collage would be paid for if in state regardless of increased cost or that the...

Favorite "gun" scene in a movie?

Last Man Standing (Bruce Willis) had some nice over the top action. 4 Brothers, the shoot out at their mom's house. The Outlaw Josey Wales, last seen with the red haired red-leg. The anticipation as we waited for the shot that ends him as he pulls gun after gun, click after click.

    Charter Arms 44

I have a Charter 2000 Bulldog Pug that I bought about 10 years ago from Acad for under $200. Put around 25 or so rnds of 200 Grn JHP CCI Blazer 44 sp through it with no complaints. As a belly gun of that caliber I figured I did not need anything too fancy for the ammo.

    .223 or 5.56 mm

Here is a decent article in the American Rifleman that may help. http://www.americanrifleman.org/articles/223rem-vs-556-whats-in-a-name Copy and pasted below: 223 Remington Vs. 5.56: What's in a Name? There is much confusion between the .223 Rem. and the 5.56 NATO rounds. By Bryce Towsley...

    H&K ownership poll.

I have owned the USP .40 compact and the .45 full size for a number of years and have been rather happy with both of them. No feed jams or issues of any kind with a variety of ammo and over a thousand rounds fired through each. I even left the mags loaded for over a year with no problems. I...

357 Supermag or 45 ACP for Bear?

From what you listed, I'd go with the .357 (as others said for penetration) in a hard cast. To be honest if there is bear, I would not go with anything less than a .44 magnum (Garrett Cartridges) but preferably my BFR in .45-70. It may be overkill, but that’s just fine with me.

How many CCWs have you gone through?

I started with a Ruger P95 use to carry it in the gut (much thinner then) it was cheap and worked well and it held 15. Then had a Charter 2000 .44 special Bulldog Pug, strong side. It was easy to hide and had the most power. I then went to a HK USPC .40 (use Remington HV) down the back of the...
