    870 - +3 magazine extension on an 18" Barrel?

I tried a +3 with an 18.5" barrel. It's much too long. It won't get hurt from muzzle blast but it will get banged up if you aren't very careful about how you store your gun. The +2 fits nearly flush with the end of the barrel and is a safer bet than the +3.

    GF does NOT like guns...

This is a topic that you cannot argue with any hope of changing someone's mind. You will never change her mind through debate and "discussion" if she doesn't want to listen and consider what you have to say. -Adam

Any pol sci majors here? What're my chances of a successful career?

I was a political science major, class of 2000. There were mainly two kinds of people in the major when I was studying: Those who wanted to go to law school and those who did not. Those of us who were not interested in law school found the other group annoying at best, rediculous brown-nosers at...

Does your state limit the number of rounds you can big game hunt with?

Ok, I know nothing about hunting. Why do states limit the number of cartridges or shells that one may carry while hunting?

Please shed some LIGHT on this...

Yes, Maglite offers filters. Fry's Electronics carries them, as do many hardware stores (OSH, Home Depot, etc.) You might also consider the Pelican brand of xenon and LED flashlights. They are brighter than a Maglite, use conventional alkaline batteries, and offer such add-ons as filters and...

    Basic folder for carry

I like my Kershaw Ken Onion Boa. Much nicer knife than my 'ol Gerber. I've come to prefer the wider (though not much longer) blades. as they feel easier to control. You might go to your local shop and heft a few in your hands to help you decide.

    Best Flashlight to carry

I think a good alternative for those who want more than 65 lumens of output but more than 20 minutes of runtime is the SureFire C3 Centurion or the P9. 105 lumens, 60 minutes continuous runtime, same features as the C2 and P6. I just got a C3 and it's a fine tool. Still small enough to clip...

Objecting to searches for self defense tools

Blue Jays, thank you for the thoughtful response as well as the PM. I suppose if one were to require, say, businesses on private property to allow carry of otherwise legal tools then one might have to say that others must allow carry of the same tools in a home or other private property. What if...

Which Gun is better for a new shooter?

Whatever you do, beware of gross generalizations about anything firearms-related. I would suggest you go to a range, rent a few different styles, calibers and brands and choose that way. Take a basic shooting class that lets you rent a gun. Then choose what feels and works best for *you*...
