Looking for help on a Remington 550

OK, after cleaning, bolt, etc well, and taking just a touch off the hook of the trigger where it contacts the sear, I get reliable function, IF I START THE TRIGGER TO THE RIGHT when starting trigger pull. Good enough for me.

Remington 550 trigger and ejection failures

Thanks Bull. I cleaned the trigger thoroughly and took just a bit off where it contacts the sear. Seems to work fine now IF I pull the trigger a bit to the right to get reliable trigger-sear contact. Pulling straight back, the trigger still does not reliable engage sear. I'm happy the way...

Remington 550 trigger and ejection failures

Remington 550 trigger does not catch sear OK, the ejection issue was solved by aggressive grinding of the left ejector. The trigger issue is harder for me to understand. I am not a smith, and the innards of this rifle are pretty shielded from view. Through a hole in the left, I can see that...

Looking for help on a Remington 550

After filing left ejector - update After filing more off the left ejector... it ejects pretty well! (One failure to eject in 60 shots) Examination of the fired cases does reveal that the open end of each case is dented. Now to work on that trigger/sear engagement!

Looking for help on a Remington 550

remington 550 failure to eject I have read elsewhere that the extractor on the left is SUPPOSED to be shaped differently from the right, as you figured out by trial and error. I may have the same issue - and may try your solution...

Remington 550 trigger and ejection failures

Well, I plunked down some bucks for a rifle Friday, and find that I have a "project" instead. Along with a crappy ejection problem I have a trigger problem: The rifle does not always fire when I pull the trigger. The trigger comes back, but no resistance is felt, and gun will not...

Looking for help on a Remington 550

I have read that piece regarding remington 550 jams This was just a short answer published in 4-1-02 American Gunsmith responding to a reader question about the same problem you have/had. The answer may not have been very good. It (without referring to the 550's floating chamber!)...

What do you think is the best bang for your buck 22lr brand?

Depends what type of shooting you plan on. If you don't need precision, buy cheap. If you want tight groups, you have to try perhaps a dozen or more ammo options to be confident of a good ammo/rifle fit. My old Anschutz target rifle simply loves a mid-range Federal Gold Medal round (I bought...
