Lee 3 or 4 die set for .380 ACP?

I have a Lee 380 ACP 3 die set and used my 9mm FCD to finish off a load just to try it out. It obviously needed to be adjusted nearly to the end of the adjustment but it seemed to work OK.

Lee’s expanding & taper crimp dies

It's designed to do that for use on a progressive reloader. The expander die instructions for my 9mm read: "In use, the expander plug travels approximately 3/8” within the die and comes to an abrupt stop at extraction. This helps to shake the powder through."

    Rifle powder

I have reached the same conclusion...IMR 4350 for large rifle and H4895 for small rifle work quite well for me. If forced to pick just one it would be H4895...really a versatile powder.

    380 ACP and BE-86

I did not see this before but just saw the following on the http://smith-wessonforum.com for a 380 ACP load: COAL: 0.965" Berry's 100 GR HBRN - 4.1 GR BE-86 - 832 FPS - 36 FPS Spread - 13.2 STD DEV - 155 Ft-Lb Between what you've given me an that S&W Forum info., I think I may have enough to...

    380 ACP and BE-86

I have been using Power Pistol in the past with the Berry's 100 gr. bullet and I think that BE-86 may be (but I'm not sure since I can't find it on a burn rate chart) a bit faster than Power Pistol. Anyway, I've got BE-86 and I'd like to find a good load using it on my 380 ACP.

    380 ACP and BE-86

Thanks for the feedback, especially the velocity stats. I have been loading with a COL of 0.980" with these bullets in the past and that has worked out well for me so I will stick with that overall length. I may try to work up some loads using what you have done. I assume by your reply that...

    380 ACP and BE-86

I've had good results with Alliant's BE-86 powder in some 9mm Luger and .38 Special loads that I put together and would also like to use this powder in loading 380 ACP. My bullet of choice would be Berry's 100 gr. hollow base round nose but Alliants online Reloader's Guide does not show a 100...

    Bullet seating woes

I do not have an answer but I am really glad you asked that question as I saw the same thing yesterday with my Lee 9mm seating die and Hornady 115 gr HAP bullets. My variance is somewhat less than yours at about 0.0010 - 0.0015 but it was making me wonder about things.

    Motorized Case Trimmer

I went for the Trim-It as well because of the easy micrometer adjustment on the trim length that seems to be a problem with some of the other ones available out there. It is a time saver for me that works well and delivers very consistent results.

powder baffles in pacific 366 ???

I also have a Pacific powder measure and it works more consistently since I added a powder baffle. See the attachment that I found on the internet for information on making a custom baffle. It's pretty easy and worth it, in my opinion.

    Forster seater die upgrade question

Does anyone know if I could possible upgrade my Forster Bench Rest Seater Die to an Ultra Micrometer Seater Die by purchasing just the micrometer head? The caliber would stay the same but I would like a little better control of seating depth and I was hoping that someone out there has gone...

Any thoughts on these two trimmers?

Yes...specific to the cartridge being trimmed. I only use it for two, .223 Remington and .30-06. I also have the original Trim-It rather than the Trim-It II. Chamfering and deburring in a separate step doesn't bother me and I use that as a final case inspection step.

Reloading items that have made your life miserable

I am with you on the Lee case trimmer. I do not know how but it managed to give me really bad case length consistency and attempting to use it with power, whether with a drill or a powered screwdriver, gave me the added problem of the case conststanly coming out of the holder. I've moved on...

Any thoughts on these two trimmers?

The comment by "rc109a" in post #4 are right on the money. The Trim-It really is a good trimmer along the same lines as the ones you asked about but is great to adjust because of the micrometer that is built into the unit. For what it's worth here is the website: http://eztrimit.com/

How to easily adjust the WFT trimmer

Interesting thread...I am not saying this to be a wise ass but this is why I decided to go for a Trim-It with the micrometer adjustment. http://eztrimit.com/

    296 for 357

Ruger revolvers are built tough and it was designed to handle 357 Magnum load. I like shooting the full power 357 load using 296 and it is accurate. I do not have a chronograph but I seriously doubt that I'm getting 1900 fps out of my Ruger revolver with its cylinder gap. I'm definitely...

    296 for 357

While I prefer W-W 296, I also worked up some 357 Magnum loads with HS-6 using a 125 gr. Hornady XTP bullet and they worked well. I like HS-6 as it has little muzzle flash and burns cleanly when you load at the high end of the recommended load range. I just felt that W-W 296 gives me the...

    296 for 357

With Hodgdon's starting load at 21.0 gr. being above Hornady's maximum load of 20.3 gr. I wanted to understand things better as they were both using the same 125 gr. Hornady XTP bullet that I wanted to load. This was all in light of the "old" Winchester Powder advice to follow the load recipe...
