I usually size on a single stage Redding press, and only load on the 1050. I have been thinking about getting a dedicated tool head for the size trim die, but since they are all backordered into forever, I am sticking with my single stage sizing and then the giarud trimmer, which is wonderful...
Right, that's what I did when I was loading them individually in some test baches. The FL die didnt touch anything, so just the neck bushing and the carbide expander ball. Since the Dillon has that expander die in station two, I was thinking I could shortcut a little and the case mouths would...
I have my 1050 set up for 223, and I also have some new Starline brass. Previously, I ran them through the sizing die and then the trimmer just to make sure everything was fine, but now I have a case of them and that's a lot of work...
Since the 1050 has the mouth expander/hold down die in...
The shell plate was loose on the 1050. I tore it all down and cleaned everything, inside and out. All primers are now seating slightly below flush, and my rifle back to functioning flawlessly. Lesson learned.
Lots of good ideas and thoughts. Overall my process has been the same for a few years. Same dies, bushing, brass, 1050 settings, really the only different variables are the Win 41 primers instead of the CCI (or old Wolf 556) and everything is an another year or two older.
I tumble all the...
I haven’t cleaned the buffer or spring in a while, it was dirty, and I wiped it off. It feels like the end of the spring was stuck around the rim of the buffer, is that how it typically is? It is an H1 buffer.
Would a work buffer spring lead to these issues?
Maybe about 3k rounds through it, less than 5, I stopped keeping track a while ago. No recent changes, I put the LaRue trigger in more than 2 years ago, and no other changes.
I will take out the buffer and look at the spring later. It is the standard BCM equipment it came with...
In doing...
Do you see any damage?
I am very concerned about the possibility. Some of the rounds were overloaded. I’ve successfully made thousands of rounds on my 1050, and stop any time the powder check gives a peep. AA2230 loads to way higher for 556, max load 26.3 with the Hornady 55 gr fmj, and I’m...
I am looking carefully at the bolt. What are those two little erosions near the firing pin hole? They don’t seem raised. Do you think this is damage related to what occurred? Do I need a new bolt?
Trust me, it’s mine. 100 cases went to the range and 100 came home…. How many people are shooting reloaded Prvi Partisan cases from M193 they bought from Wideners back in the day…when it was $300 a case…
Load is 24.5 gr of 2230, recent manufacture, 2020 or 2021 I gotta check the bottle. Hornady 55 FMJ. Stock BCM Mid 16, no modifications or anything funky. Vanilla load shooting vanilla bullets in a vanilla rifle. I have my powder check, so I doubt it was a significantly increased charge...
Thanks for all the great info! Unless the original BCM firing pin has been eating too much and not hitting the gym, it shouldn't be growing any. I think reloader error and those new Winchester primers might be the culprit, but since I bought a few of them, I will be double checking the swager...
Yes, fortunately the firearm was not "disassembled" by what occurred, and it actually shot a very nice group afterward. That case is definitely a keeper, kind of like those pictures of disassembled revolver cylinders from double charges, but without the firearm damage.
I will be examining...
Hmm I tried doing that and nothing happened... I tried using a larger allen wrench, because the one they supplied wasn't even coming close to moving that grub screw. It seems stuck, and I don't want to break or snap anything...so not sure what to do. I will look at it again after work.
Thanks for the advice, I will be checking the bolt carefully as I'm cleaning it later. I will also adjust the swager and primer punch on the Dillon to make sure those puppies are seating all the way, I know I've felt one or two that might have been a touch high, but never had a problem before...
So I was trying to set up the Amp Mate today, and I got stuck at trying to tighten the shell holder. On the video, it say extend a screw, and I see him using an allen wrench. I can't figure out what to do!
