    Wednesday night Casual

I used to load my .454 down about 150 FPS or so below factory with 300 grain bullets. In my dotage though, I can't handle the big loads anymore either. I could have gone lower with the .454, but after a wrist injury just used the aux. .45ACP cylinder instead. I still have some of those old...

    Henry Rifles based on marlin?

The Henry and Marlins seem very similar to me, but hey, why reinvent the wheel? I agree the Henry receiver is boxy looking compared to the Marlins.

    Stunning 29-2 4” Class B Engraving $999?!?! HOW??

That is a beauty! I suspect that 29-2, with the letter, would have been $2000 or more around these parts.

Happy Birthday to the Late Skeeter Skelton

Skeeter was one of my favorites. Due to his influence, I bought myself a new 5" 27-2 back in the '70s. By some miracle, still have it..

King of modern defense revolvers: S&W 686+

halfmoonclip, Had more than one 686+ 7-shooter. Lockwork is the same as 6-shooter, so although the 7-shot cylinder locks up sooner, no difference in DA pull.

    38 Spl Clark Conversion

Mark Mark, Yes I did see him shoot it. We were shooting next to each other at a public range. We chatted, he showed me the gun and how the .38 Super ammo fit and fed just fine from the .38WC magazines, etc.

    38 Spl Clark Conversion

Mark Mark, I ran into an older gentleman at the range years ago who had figured out how hot a load he could run in his mode M52. He was shooting .38 Super in his 52. Don't know if they were factory or reloads, but I didn't notice any malfunctions...

King of modern defense revolvers: S&W 686+

No argument out of me. I never carried a 686 concealed, but did carry one in uniform for several years. While the Pythons don't seem bulky to me, the 686 has became my favorite .357 revolver. I've had 6 and 7-shot versions but, just through long familiarity I guess, I prefer the 6-shot...

Just venting a little bit and man I am not a fan of Lena Miculeck right now lol…ugh

I share your pain. Some years ago my wife happened to be with me in a LGS; didn't happen often, just my misfortune on that particular day.. She saw one of those Titanium Rainbow Sig P239s:barf: Had to have it, never shot it, don't think she ever even looked at it again. She remembered it...

S&W 5906 VBE prefix series number? any ideas

I've been tempted by the 52-2s. Beautiful pistols, but didn't really know what I'd do with a .38 WC gun. Years ago, I saw a small magazine ad for a 952, and immediately tried to get one. My busy FFL asked me to find out who the distributor was, so I called S&W and asked. A very unpleasant...

S&W 5906 VBE prefix series number? any ideas

Mark Mark, FWIW, I've owned regular production and PC 5906 pistols. All boringly reliable with any ammo I used, nothing broke, the heavy guns absorb recoil well with even the heaviest factory or reloaded ammo. "Bullet proof" might be a good way to describe the 5906s. Years ago, I bought a...

S&W 5906 VBE prefix series number? any ideas

FWIW, I have owned S&Ws whose serial number prefix did not appear in SCSW, etc. Nothing unusual in the VBE prefix that I can see. Interpolating from SCSW 4th. ed., looks likely VBE is '94 production. But without checking with S&W or getting a letter, nothing is guaranteed since S&W did not...

Henry Big Boy X Model - High Grin Factor!

Pat Riot, I used a Skinner rail. Yes, if take off the RDS the iron sights are still usable. FWIW, I tried a scope on this gun using the Skinner rail and medium rings. If I were going to mount a scope on it again, I would use the factory Henry rail. The factory rail adds 1/8" or so in height...

Henry Big Boy X Model - High Grin Factor!

My BB with the octagon barrel shoots so high with factory sights, that it is almost unusable to me. The nice lady at Henry sent me a new taller front sight at N/C to bring POI down. The factory front sight is very tight in the dovetail, so haven't installed the new front sight yet. I don't do...

    Series 80 on the way.

swoter, I had an early S80 like yours. It was a very nice pistol in all respects. My early S80 like yours, had the collet bushing, small GI type sights and high cut ejection port like the S70 and earlier models. It appears the grips and front sight have been replaced on yours. With the...

    S&W 547 opinions?

.357s can be converted to 9mm, but... There is the expense, and ballistics and accuracy may not be equal to a factory revolver chambered in 9mm. Been there, done that with a 686 conversion. It is now a 6-shot .357, convertible to a 7-shot 9mm. It works as advertised, but I'm not sure it's...

Eclipse model firearms lets see 'em

A .38 super I've had for a few years. It has always been reliable, but now has just a few changes to suit, including a fitted 9mm barrel. The pistol is reliable with .38 Super, Super Comp, .38 TJ, 9X23 Win, and of course 9mm..

    pistol caliber rifles/carbines

I like them. I may have one or two around here somewhere:uhoh: But I am NOT looking for a companion rifle to go along with my .454 Casull.

    Auto_loader with hammer Question

I carried a Colt Govt. in condition 1 every working day for several years. So cocked and locked just seems natural to me. Every time I see someone in the movies or on TV running around in some dangerous situation with a 1911 type pistol, hammer down; I can't help but shake my head. The...

    S&W 547 opinions?

vanfunk, Having owned two of the 3" 547s, I'll share my admittedly biased 2¢ worth. The extractors on both of mine were trouble free. They even extracted the higher pressure NATO, +P, IMI black tip "carbine", equivalent reloads, etc. flawlessly. Had I encountered a 3" 547 in a LGS in the...
