So the bottom of the primer punch is able to make enough contact with the set screw without deforming or going inside the allen socket?

I have had the same primer seating issues and OAL issue as the OP from day one with my LNL. I tried a shim under the primer punch and that ended up in timing issues that couldn't be adjusted out. I am seriously considering a Dillon 650 as I'm not all that impressed with this Hornady.

I have had a Cabelas tumbler for a couple years now. It's been used very heavily and still works like a champ!

Another vote for the RCBS lock out die. Once you learn how to adjust it, it's easy and quick to do. I won't reload without one!

^^^ This is how mine is as well. I think the new design is to allow the rod to pop out instead of bending the rod or breaking the bracket when forced.
