You know that you spend to much time at the gun store...

...when you stop hanging out, and start punching in! :D

    Best way to shipp ammo?

Hopefully you have a better experience than I when you go to ship your ammo...I was almost without my carefully handloaded ammo on last year's prairie dog trip! Unfortunately, the laws are not known well at UPS locations (at least around me), and I had to go through all sorts of hoops to get...

    Marlin or Winchester 30-30?

if you are looking for new... A recent issue of Gun Tests chose the Marlin 336 over the Winchester 94. Personally, I like the 336, since it feels (and is!) sturdier...there are probably a good number who would say they like the Winchester for the exact opposite reason -- it is a bit slimmer...

    Tell me about 22 hornet...

Yep...Remington 700 LVSF in .221 Fireball...what a great little rifle. Not cheap, but highly recommended. I've also shot the CZ 527 American in .22 Hornet and .221 Fireball, and they are both recommended as well.

    Tell me about 22 hornet...

Didn't I mention accuracy? Oh, well, then I guess I should post some supporting evidence... :D Here is 5 shots @ 100 yards...yeah, I know, no land speed records, but still... :neener:

    Tell me about 22 hornet...

Lone_Gunman... My experience with the .22 Hornet shooting varmints is nil, so please take that into account, but may I also suggest you look at the .221 Fireball? That is a caliber I have a lot of practical experience with. The Fireball will drive a 50 grain bullet to approximately the same...

    New vs Used

One thing I consider "fun" about buying used is getting the firearm home, taking it apart (at least as far as practical), and thoroughly cleaning/restoring/oiling it. OK, so maybe I'm weird...it just gives me some kind of strange satisfaction to find an otherwise excellent piece that is in need...

    Revolver suggestions (for my girlfriend)

A number of good suggestions here as far as different models go...and a .357/.38 is a good platform. However, as a part-time gun shop employee, my experience tells me this: Bring your girlfriend to the shop, and let her hold/handle a bunch of different models you are considering. It seems...

    GF does NOT like guns...

silverbird... I think the most important answer to your question isn't about firearms, which others have already alluded to in prior posts. It's great that you agree on most things...no, your interests don't have to be the same. However, chances are, the way she is reacting to something you...

A Varmint Hunters Odyssey, Part I: Preparation

Had to give some more input... The last few years, my annual prairie dog hunts have also served as a kind of family reunion, with a couple uncles and a cousin who I don't often see, along with my brother. The family aspect of it makes it even better, I think... Here are some more...

A Varmint Hunters Odyssey, Part I: Preparation

esheato... One opinion from someone who has made several prairie dog shooting trips recently... Perhaps it depends on where/how you hunt, but binoculars were absolutely essential to my prairie dog hunts. I research every piece of equipment I buy to the point of ridiculousness, and the...

    Post Your Ruger SP101 Pics!

Here are my two SPs...I bought the stainless a few months ago, but I work at a gunshop part time, and when the limited edition target grey came in on a trade, I picked it up and wouldn't put it down. Needless to say, now I have two. :D The stainless has Crimson Trace grips, and the target...

    Help me buy a 30-30

Just a note on the scope/levergun issue... I put a Leupold scout scope setup on my 336C in .35 Remington, with Ashley ghost ring backups, and it really works great...doesn't ruin the balance or interfere with your grip should you want to hold the firearm by the receiver...

    Help me buy a 30-30

Balog, if you are comparing new models of the 94 and 336, Gun Tests chose the Marlin in a recent comparison. Granted, these were the bargain models, the 94 Ranger and the 336W, but if I remember correctly, the Marlin won on several key points. You have to be a subscriber to view the whole...
