Neat looking pistol....what the heck is it?

20170115_120951 by bo thenook, on Flickr Friend picked up this jewel. I can't find anything about it. Looks to be around 34 caliber...definitely bigger than 32 caliber. Rimfire. Help identify? 20170115_121024 by bo thenook, on Flickr 20170115_121137 by bo thenook, on Flickr 20170115_121157...

    fiocchi caps?

Ran into a good deal on fiocchi percussion caps. There are two types, a red plastic container, and a blue one. Anyone shoot these? Do you know if they are corrosive, or at least more corrosive as Remmy #10 which I use for just about all my cap guns? Any clues as to which would be considered a...

looking for info on a trade gun

As always, I'm amazed at the responses on the boards. I don't have access to the gun, and only forwarded the phone conversation in case someone recognized the maker's (owner's name maybe?) name. Dude with the gun isn't into the tech needed to get a picture. We are meeting in a week or so...

looking for info on a trade gun

buddy just called asking me if I'd ever heard of a rifle maker. he just bought a 72 caliber trade gun and the only markings are George Dornbach a serial number INRI. He tells me it's a caplock, and the trigger guard is really wide, like a civil war military musket. The barrel is around 32...

    cracked stock

Stock crack left side by bo thenook, on Flickr Looking at the stock, there is a crack on the opposite side as well, closer to the toe. That gives me the feeling the grain is at an angle, and that the crack goes all the way through the wood. Fortunately there is a bit that is still attached...

    cracked stock

so i've seen it a number of times where you guys all had fixes for cracked wood. I have an old friend, a Lyman GPR that has been used and abused for years. Still shoots straight and still looks like something you might want to hang on a wall for display. Not beautiful, but serviceable...

    BP Pistol Safety Ques.

to add to the discussion: I was always taught (and I'm a geezer, so figure how long it's been since I first heard this) that powder in the chamber and no cap, the firearm is charged. Cap in place, it is now armed/loaded. Doesn't count for flinters....

    New Toy

man, I hate when people say "future collector's piece". Why buy a gun if you don't intnd to shoot the darned thing?

    Lyman .50 Trade rifle

I really like this rifle. I shoot 490 ball, mattress ticking patches lubed with a 1:5 to 1:8 mix of ballistol and water. shooting at 50 yards, a 50 gr load of FFFg is just what the doctor ordered. It's not unusual to hit consistently in the 9 ring, and a lot of them in the 10 ring off hand on...

Rediscovered love affair with the Lyman Great Plains pistol

got to where I was keeping 10 shots inside a 4 inch circle, with most inside the 3 inch at 50 yards offhand, 25 grains of 3f, .490 ball using mattress ticking patches lubed with ballistol and water. Love that little pistol, but it got to be a real bear holding on to, because I have short stubby...

    The RUGER OLD ARMY Club

as much fun as all of the different bp guns are, it's pretty obvious that the guys here are ROA fans by a long shot. according to the stats, there have been 311,259 views of the ROA thread, with the next largest number coming in at 6,272. considering how much fun the ROAs are to shoot, it...

How come BP rifles don't blow up during loading?

curious why that would be a problem, since the powder is loaded first, then a greased miniball or a patched roundball, then the rod.... how exactly would a spark even get to the powder? not being a smart a#@, just curious.....

    Cap tins

yup, and it works great. got one in german silver for the remmie #10 and a brasser for the cci #11. flawless function on both, and both have dispensed over 5K caps each since I purchased them....the occasional tweek to the ends to realign is all that's ever been needed. As a side note, the...

What to do with Old Army with bad barrel

I bought a safe queen from a buddy for cheap cheap because a previous owner had left a cleaning patch in the barrel for years maybe. it left a big dark corrosion ring halfway down the barrel. my buddy was so mad when he discovered the ring that the gun sat in his safe for 5 years. 45 minutes...

    THR Remington 1858 Club

bummer went to the range the other day. took my Pietta buffalo out along with a couple other bp guns. a trio of youngsters next to me couldn't get enough of the dueling pistol or the hawken, so I let them shoot all 3 of them. then I dug out the Buffalo, loaded it up, and handed it to the...

bull in china shop syndrome at work

buy a second kit, swap out parts and get a replacement that way? Not only nope, but hell nope. I will not spend another penny on traditions junk, except maybe a replacement part for the lock along the way.
