Is an m1a more accurate if fired single shot?

Possibly. My personal and completely unscientific opinion is that you would be engaging in an exercise of diminishing returns. Interested in your results if you decide to put the theory into action.

    Ruger Gunsight Scout

The scope is awesome! I got it "on paper" at 100 yards. I got to the range 5 minutes after sundown... Had about 12 minutes to get it sorted out. I knew I should have waited till tomorrow, but I was anxious. The night sky is dark as heck tonight! The rings I ordered are...

My suggestion is to educate yourself on External Ballistics. The Hornady 9th Edition is good place to start.

    First AR queston

Scope rings are available in different heights. Do you know what size your rings are? If you have the minimum ring height, you could always add a cheek riser to your stock. When I served, it was commonplace to tape a piece of foam PT mat with rigors tape to the stock. Good luck

    Ruger Gunsight Scout

Thanks for the response. I ordered a Leupold MK4 and rings. I think I did my math correctly...:uhoh: I determined that I need Leupold's "Super High" rings. I'll figure it out. Thanks again :)

    Ruger Gunsight Scout

I'm mulling the purchase of a new scope for mine. It also has an XS rail. Do you happen to know the size of your objective bell and the height of your rings? Thanks in advance. Nice looking rifle. :) Looks like you got one with the newer composite stock.

    Which ones like it dirty?

I like to clean and lube the action of my rifles. The bore, not so much. Over the years, I've learned that a fouled bore produces a more predictable cold bore shot. I push a patch or two and follow up with an oiled patch after a light range session. Call it done for 200 rounds or so. Then the...

    Anyone Loading 7.62X39 ?

A good deal on an AK63D came my way. I jumped. Not mine, just an image. I already reload for several calibers. With x39 surplus selling for .20-.40 in Bulk, I started thinking about reloading. If you reload for this caliber: Where are you sourcing your brass? Favorite Powder...

    Springfield 1903 Questions

I got that Son of Gun apart ;). Not without some cussin and a little aggravation though. I think there's a good chance that those parts haven't been disassembled in almost 100 years. Anyway, using the math from the link in Malamute's post, .008" = 1" at 100 yards, I was able to to find a...

    Springfield 1903 Questions

Thanks. I'll look for it. Thinking about it. It would appear that you have to raise the front or lower the rear??? I wonder how they do it. I'm interested.

    Springfield 1903 Questions

I appreciate the info fellas. I cast and reload. I'll probably just keep it as is and find a lead-boolit/powder combination that works well with the battle sight notch. Thanks again. :)

    Springfield 1903 Questions

Thanks Malamute. The sight I'd like to install is the type pictured below. I'd like to know if I can pull the two screws drilled into the rear of the receiver and install it there. I'm aware of the date and the unsafe metallurgy issues. I've shot some factory 180 gr rounds that were...

    Springfield 1903 Questions

I bought a Springfield 1903 about 10 years ago at a gun-show. The receiver has been drilled and tapped for a scope. I don't think it came from the factory this way. The date stamped on the barrel is Oct/1918. Couple questions: Is it possible to add a "peep" type rear sight? The receiver...

    Keeping Windage Screws Tight

If the scope mount screws are loose, your zero is already off. If you can easily tighten them, I wouldn't be surprised if your zero changes. I'd suggest tightening them with an inch-pound torque driver. Reestablish your zero then use loctite and reconfirm again. I've good success with a...

    Ruger Gunsite .308 Scope Suggestions

I'm thinking really hard about buying a Nightforce 2.5-10x32 with a Mil-Dot reticle. The scope I'm using now has a duplex reticle. I've learned where on the reticle I need to holdover for shots out to 280 yards. With my reloads, I'm getting 16" of drop at 280 yards from my 100 yard zero...

    AR Lower Build Lesson Learned

I had pretty good results with CMMG and Palmetto State Armory Lower build kits. I ended up replacing the trigger on one build with a Timney. If you're just looking for springs, maybe try one of those "AR Repair Kits" Good Luck

    Ruger Gunsite .308 Scope Suggestions

I can't say yet. I'd like to find a scope setup that would allow use with irons. It's a "new to me" rifle. Maybe quick release mounts? In case of scope failure, IDK? I'm trying to figure it out. :) I just got it back from Ruger today. Their Customer Service is second to none! Here's where...

    Ruger Gunsite .308 Scope Suggestions

No sweat. It's an aftermarket picatinny rail with an integrated rear sight. It allows mounting a scope over the receiver while retaining the rear sight. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/436943/xs-full-length-scope-mount-rail-ruger-gunsight-scout-aluminum-matte
