    Cylinder rotation issue

Busy work week and not much time to dedicate yet. I will post up once I work on the ratchet.

    Cylinder rotation issue

OK ... I was hoping for a more precise way of doing that! I will try with one of my smaller files.

    Cylinder rotation issue

I wanted to add something I have found while working on this R&D cylinder rotation issue. I tested the original Black Powder cylinder in the pistol and it rotated with no problem. If you look at the photo below; On the left is the original black powder cylinder and on the right is the R&D...

    Cylinder rotation issue

I've been working on the hand. Slowly removing small amounts of material at a time and testing. The hammer will now turn the cylinder most of the time, but still hangs up at times. I feel if I take more off the end of the hand the cylinder will no longer go into battery. I have ordered a...

    Cylinder rotation issue

Skeeterfogger, very informative post from the archives. I tested a shorter hand last night and found it worked better, but the rotation fell short on the timing. I have ordered a couple of new hands so I can start fresh. The hands I'm currently working with have been battered from all the...

    Cylinder rotation issue

Skeeterfogger, the layout fluid on the back of the cylinder was inconclusive. I could not tell where the hand was touching. (I've made more changes to the video settings. Frustrating as it works perfectly from my computer.)

    Cylinder rotation issue

I changed to setting from private to public. Don't know if that will help with the video.

    Cylinder rotation issue

J-Bar, No the revolver was never shot as a percussion gun. Skeeterfogger, I will try putting dykim on the back of the cylinder and report back. (Is the video link working? It worked for me from a different computer)

    Cylinder rotation issue

J-Bar, The issue happens with and without ammunition and also happens without a trigger and bolt in place. Skeeterfogger mentioned the hand might be too long. I'm worried if I shorten it any more, it will throw the timing off. I have attached a video to show what is happing when I pull the...

    Cylinder rotation issue

Jim, I have disassemble the internals. I removed the trigger/bolt spring, trigger and bolt to take them out of the equation. All of which were operating properly within spec. I took the cylinder out of the equation to see if the hammer/hand combo alone was the issue. No problem. Smooth...

    Cylinder rotation issue

The bullet nose is just inside the cylinder; no dragging. The cylinder rotates just fine once it starts to rotate. The issue is getting it to start rotating as the hammer is pulled back.

    Cylinder rotation issue

The cylinder is free to rotate at half cock. No issue.

    Cylinder rotation issue

Mike 56, Thank you for the replay. The hand spring is intact. I'm not referring to barrel down cocking as opposed to barrel up cocking which may indicate a broken hand spring. The cylinder will rotate in any position while cocking. Of course, it doesn't mean the hand is not causing an...

    Cylinder rotation issue

I have an 1849 Colt Pocket revolver with a small problem. The pistol has a Howell conversion cylinder in 32 caliber. The problem: After each shot, I have to help the cylinder start its rotation when the hammer is pulled back. If I don’t “help” it, the hammer jams at about quarter pull back...

    Cylinder Over Rotation

The percussion cylinder has bigger and deeper more exaggerated notches than the Kirst cylinder. The bolt is very tight in the conversion cylinder and it may be bouncing out. I will try to stone the bolt and get a better fit. I'm reluctant to touch the hand at this point and I need to understand...

    Cylinder Over Rotation

OK, after playing a bit more, I notice more as well. The bolt fits each cylinder notch, although tight. I did stone the bolt to make sure the surface was square What I noticed, which I missed before: even under slow cocking, the bolt is off or passed the mark by a fraction each time. The...

    Cylinder Over Rotation

First; thank you for the responses. As suggested, I have tested with the original percussion cylinder and it works perfect. Locks up tight every time. However, something I noticed and did not mention earlier. The conversion cylinder only over rotates on every other pull of the hammer...

    Cylinder Over Rotation

The issue is the same with dummy rounds and empty. Good question about the original percussion cylinder. I will try it and report back.

    Cylinder Over Rotation

I have a question about cylinder over rotation. I’ve done a search, but could not find a clear answer. The pistol is a Pietta 1851 with a 45cal Kirst Konvertor. I have marked the cylinder and ring for clarity: The first picture shows the cylinder after a slow cocking. The second picture is...
