No, the .308 "AR's" all use different magazines. The Armalite AR-10 uses a modified M-14 mag, some DPMS' use a FAL mag I believe, the old Bushies use something else, and someone was making one that uses HK-91 mags.
I remember it differently. The "sporting purpose" provision was on imported firearms. Gun retailers got that included to stop the flood of cheap war surplus and obsoleted bolt actions in order to reduce competition. GCA '68 got lots of support from sporting goods stores because you used to be...
You have to disassemble your upper to a large degree anyway if you want to put on a barrel nut-type of rail, so you might just want to buy a stripped flattop upper.
Firstly, a semi-auto 12 gauge is going to be lighter than a pump.
Given your requirements to shoot large animals, the M1-A is better suited. You can get close to a high-cap .25-06 - Armalite has their AR-10 in .243.
I used #4 shot in a 12 gauge and the pins screamed off the table. I bet #6 would work fine. A bullseye gun is going to be better than an ordinary service pistol just because it's easier to shoot accurately. But the most important factor is the caliber. 9mm will not do the job.
A CMP Field Grade Garand is going to look awfully beat and worn compared to a new Springfield Armory M1A. The comparison is apples and oranges. I bet by the time you get it refinished with new wood, it's not going to be a ton cheaper than the M1A.
The bad thing about M1 carbines is he can't...
Yeah.
My buddy used to have an M16, and we cranked 30 rounder after 30 rounder through it without problem. They were stuffed full, none of this 28 round business, and the old style, before the new followers or teflon coating. Have 2 or 3 20's for bench or prone shooting, otherwise make them 30's.
Man, I love the SIG dot-the-i. I've never seen a faster aligning setup. You can see in an instant whether the sights are aligned, and if not, which way they need to go.
