    S&W 65 MISFIRES

Thanks, Joe, But: Thanks, Joe. The gun is used, but the screw looks pretty pristine. And I've had the revolver for a while. In 1999 (because of Millenium Madness) I sent it in to Smith & Wesson to make sure it was up-to-spec and to refinish it and they didn't find anything wrong. This seems...

    S&W 65 MISFIRES

My M65 had been having a problem with light primer strikes, failing to fire 2 or 3 rounds/50 on the first try. I found the strain screw loose and snugged it up; then I put 50 rounds through the gun successfully. I made sure the screw hadn't moved and put a dab of "Uncle Mike's Guntite" on it...

    Revo/Semiauto Firing Pins

Why are semiauto firing pins more fragile than revolver FPs? Seems like revolver FPs take more of a beating. I say this because I asked on this forum, "Why do I have light strikes on my primers 'sometimes'? Most of the times the cases are heavily dented." I was told that ALL my primer...

    "Guntite"

I have a tube of "Guntite" from Uncle Mikes. It's some variety of Loctite made for firearms. Does anybody know how to get this stuff-- or any Loctite product-- OFF if you need to remove a part? I no longer have the instructions. :cuss: Thanks

    Why Light Strikes?

Strain Screw? How can I tell whether the strain screw has backed off? Don't want to mess with it if it hasn't. If it has, how do I keep it from backing off again? Thanks for the quick response. dr. j

    Why Light Strikes?

This is really bizarre. My nightstand gun is a S&W 65 .357 in excellent condition. My standard ammunition for it has been 125 gr UMC SJHP .38 +P for several years. What I have is the old "yellow box" UMC and I've been shooting it off lately, just because it's time to replace. On one box...

    Why Different "Light" 9mm?

Some ammo companies produce both 115gr and 124gr JHPs in 9mm. For example, Speer Gold Dots come in 115 and 124 in addition to 147. Why? I can understand "heavy" (usually 147gr) vs. light, but why 2 different lighter weights? Is 124 significantly different than 115? Why don't they drop...

    Hoppes elite cleaner and oil

Good Stuff! The Hoppe's Elite products are actually "MPro7" products with Hoppe's name. They are made at the same factory-- Pantheon Chemicals. "MPro7" is Pantheon's house brand. You can get oil, cleaner and "Field Cleaner". The field cleaner is their version of CLP. Unlike Breakfree, it...

    Military Rank-and-File Pistol Training

After basic training, how often are "rank-and-file" members of the military required to qualify with the issue handgun? By RAF I mean not front-line shooters, but the clerks, cooks, technicians, etc., etc. I am interested in information concerning ALL branches of service. For example, how...

    Grandpa's Old Army Pistol

Every once in a while you read some story about somebody hearing something suspicious outside their house or something, and they go and get "grandpa's old Army .45" out of the dresser. Was there ever a time when military personnel were allowed to bring their pistols home? Could "Grandpa" have...

    "Gunsmith Fit"

If you buy standard factory replacement parts for a standard, unmodified pistol, should anything need to be fit by a smith? I see aftermarket parts sometimes designated as "gunsmith fit", but I assume that these are for people who mean to customize or improve their guns in some way. When...

    Pistol Pins

I want to detail strip a Beretta 92 9mm pistol. There seem to be several different kinds of "pins" involved-- roll pins, drift pins, spring pins, etc. How do you tell the different types of pins apart? Which types can't be reused? Thanks.

    MPro-7 Gun Cleaner

IT WON'T EAT YOUR BRASS BRUSHES It does work great-- it's the only cleaner I use-- and what's more it doesn't eat your brass brushes. It's a very good product.

Standard Barrel Lenth For .22 Specs

When the manufacturer lists specs for .22 rimfire ammo, e.g. "muzzle velocity 1255 fps", what barrel length are they using for the test? Thanks, Doctorj

How long have you gone w/o cleaning your guns?

Each Time I Shoot I belong to the "if I don't have time to clean it, I don't have time to shoot it" school. I clean what I shoot as soon as I get home from the range and after a day or two I'll give the bore(s) another quick once-over with CLP.

    Bore Cleaners and copper removers

MPo7 You may be a cheapskate, but I would still recommend MPro7. It's expensive, but it doesn't take much and it won't eat brass brushes. I only use it if I've shot the gun; otherwise I just use CLP. Do an Internet search for MPro7-- they have a website. I don't know for sure, but they may...

    Revolver cylinder doesn't hold 357's?

Tornado brush or pot scrubber This is one of the reasons I make sure I clean my revolver ASAP after shooting. I use MPro7 as a cleaner, and the instructions specifically recommend a bristle brush for the bore; but I've found a tornado brush (with the spirals) good for the charge holes...

What is the best cleaning solvent?

MPro7 Little bit goes a long way, no smell and it doesn't dissolve my brass brushes. Only use it after I've shot the gun. Otherwise every once in a while I'll run a patch with a little CLP down the bore.
