If you don't mind the look of black rubber on a single action revolver, I believe Pachmayer grips fill in part of the space behind the trigger guard so your middle finger doesn't get smacked. A more expensive fix is to change the grip frame to a Super Blackhawk grip frame. I read somewhere...
Got to YSA a little early and started shooting at the Pistol Range. Got so involved that I didn't stop shooting until after 11:00 and didn't say "hi" to anyone. Sorry about that, but thanks for getting me to the range. Next time I'll take a break at 10 and look for who else is there.
Started off in high school shooting my Dad's Walther P-38 9mm. That was 30 years ago. Went through the Wonder-nine phase with the S&W 59, 659, 5906, Beretta 92, BHP, CZ-75...got rid of them all. Picked up a used S&W 3913 and loved it. Just the right size for a 9mm.
I have both and the 1991A1 Colt wins for workmanship and has the firing pin safety. But I replaced the plastic MSH and trigger on mine. The Springfield I keep to get scratched and beat up...when I don't want to carry the Colt.
The first handgun I fired was my Grandfather's S&W M&P 5" .38 Special. I was 6 years old and my father let me shoot it. Never knew my Grandfather...he died when my Dad was 16. My Dad kept his father's M&P as his house gun for another 63 years.
Back in the '70's the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Pistol Team used both the High Standard and the S&W 41. The majority of cadets used the High Standard. Since my Dad had a 41, that's what I chose to shoot. But, without his influence I would've used the High Standard...it just felt better.
I've always thought my revolvers were more accurate than my autos. This has always been the case with my 6" and 7 1/2" revolvers and with my .357s/.38s of any barrel length. But I found out that my Kimber 1911A1 out-shoots the 4" Model 625 I had. Ended up selling the 625.
